It really depends on the change.
I don't jump right off and automatically update, unless I am having some specific issue that the update fixes.
There have been lots of times where rushing to install a update bricks the system, since it wasn't tested well enough.
This just recently happened with a windows update and a specific motherboard.
I agree. It's tough to tell without knowing which drive it is. Generally a FW update fixes something important. However, I think the OP is referring to a Samsung 850 Pro SSD.
It's hard to tell because he has 5 different recent posts concerning SSDs in the storage sub-forum.
In on of those posts he is cloning with Macrium Refelect free instead of Samsung Data Migration.
If he ended up buying the 850 Pro from a friend (in another post on first page), I'm not sure why he wouldn't use Samsung's clone program.
But that's what tends to happen when questions on the same thing are spread out across many posts.
