SSD in a SATA II mobo?

Am thinking about ditching my 74GB Raptor boot drive for an SSD (Crucial C300). My mobo supports only SATA II, so would I be retarding this drive? I imagine it would be faster in any case, but I wanted to check with the brain trust here first. You can see from my system specs that my hardware is aging, so any advice you all can lend would be most appreciated.

It is not that big of deal, I would not call 300MB/s bottleneck for a hard drive. Latency and IOPS, (the things that make SSDs way faster than mechanical drives) won't be affected. C300 would feel way faster than 74G raptor even on SATAI.

Youd need a third gen SATA III drive advertised at 500+ MB/sec for that to happen. Other than a few really new drives (Vertex 3, Force 3, Wildfire, etc), most are in the 250-300 MB/sec media rate anyway.

I wouldn't care if it was on SATA I, give me the SSD every time.

C300 will be bottlenecked by SATA2 -- around 250~260MB/s. That said, C300 will be a lot faster than Raptor regardless of SATA2 or SATA3 interface.

You're doing almost exactly the same thing I did a few months back, cept mine was a velociraptor. It was still totally worth it on a Sata2 board.
