SSD: Intel G2 160GB vs Crucial RealSSD C300 256

I am considering upgrading to a SSD. Everyone seems to be happy when they upgrade and most say it is the best upgrade they have done in years.

I have narrowed it down to either the Intel G2 160GB (1 or 2 in RAID 0) or Crucial RealSSD C300 256GB.

I know the size and price difference, am I more interested in performance (Speed, TRIM support, and issues with firmware, etc.)

Currently I have 2x 300GB VelociRaptor in RAID 0, on my x58 chipset -ICH10R.

I have read that many people love their Intel SSDs and that they seem stable and the firmware is solid.

However I do have a motherboard with SATA 3.0, and have read a number of mixed reviews on the RealSSD C300.

Anyone have any suggestions or experiences with both or either of these drives?

Or should I just keep my raptors and wait for the next generations of drive. (Intel new XXnm)

I'm assuming you're talking about the Intel G2 160GB. And yes, I love my Intel SSD.

The issue with the newer SSDs like the C300 is, just as Anand points out in his reviews, long term testing and reliability. He has already discovered a bug with the C300 and I'm not sure if it has been fixed yet.

Intel G2's, although not as fast as the newer drives like the C300 and the Sandforce drives in benchmarks, have proven reliability. Also, it's debatable whether the speed increases of the newer SSDs are noticeable in everyday usage. This has also been said when comparing Intels to the Indilinx drives.

Upgrade now or later? That's always the million dollar question with technology. Unfortunately, the answer is the same, it's really up to you.

Intel 160GB G2

Proven reliability and very fast, and as others said you won't notice the difference in everyday useage. Plus the Intel G2 drives are what Anand himself uses.

No idea about the price points, but ignoring that, you're more or less exchaning performance for reliabilty, which may or may not be a good idea. I'd probably decide on my current mood if I didn't already have a Intel drive

I voted single X25 160 although 2 in raid 0 would be great (I had this config for awhile) the difference in real world use going from single to raid is hardly noticable. There will be a great improvment over your current setup going to a single drive though!

Having said that, I am considering going with a crucial drive too, but have almost made up my mind to sit on a single 160 or raid two 80's for the rest of this year and see how everything shakes out.
