SSD is IDE instead of AHCI

When going through my BIOS the other day, it said that the SATA mode was IDE. I tried to change it to AHCI (loooong after install) which obviously didn't work. I got a quick BSOD after POST and reboot.

How much do I stand to gain by reformatting my SSD (SATA III) and doing a clean install under AHCI? I assumed these days that AHCI was default instead of IDE. Ugh. My BIOS is the latest version available by ASRock.

Cool, I just happened to come across this post, and although I have a HDD I went ahead and did it (silly me forgetting to toggle IDE to AHCI when I set this machine up a few years back).

Generally things seem slightly more responsive. My boot times decreased a fair amount. Take what you can get!

Don't forget to try the AHCI driver from who ever makes your chipset. With my SB750, the AMD driver speed up boot times and gave my benchmarks a little boost.

I installed Win 7 & used my new rig with my Intel SSD for months before I switched it to AHCI, it's not a super noticeable difference in general usage but in most benchmarks it has made a bit of a jump, like the Windows score for example
