OCZ Vertex 4. It's extremely fast and my experience with the drives have been phenomenal. The hate towards OCZ is pretty crazy around here. Maybe the SandForce stuff had issues, but the latest stuff is fine.

I also like Intel drives. They cost a lot more, but Intel's validation + being able to cherry pick NAND makes it worth it if you've got the dough.

OCZ lied about the vertex 4 controller. They introduced a (destructive) firmware update just a few weeks after launch. They have a long and distinguished history of releasing ssd's with beta firmware. Based on their track record its reasonable to assume that the Vertex 4 will be good in about a year, but until then you're probably safer using something else.

How would a better controller fix their history of customer abuse?

heh we are on the same side here, just giving the benefit of the doubt I haven't paid any attention to OCZ since my Vertex 2 died and having to deal with OCZs BS. Thaknfully I just canceled my RMA after Amazon took it back and refunded me my money.

It seems they already having issues with the Vertex 4 which is no surprise. I don't get why they are still so popular.

Just had my first SSD die, my second Sandforce based. Undetected by anything. I didn't head the warnings and now am 1/2 on sandforce. My other dozen SSDs are all Marvell/Samsung/Intel chips. No problems with those. Samsung is my fav, they are way faster than Intel G2s! Head the warnings on Sandforce!

I saw here no body mentioned the Crucial M4 series.

512GB for 399.99 at amazon and other places.

Your getting 2GB per dollar here,

Im going to be purchasing the M4 512GB cuz its 400 dollars, and Sammy 830 512GB is 700 dollars. That 300 dollar difference.

What should I do, wait for Sammy price drop , or M4 ?

Both are solid choices OP.

The Samsung 830, is generally regarded as one of the best in the industry, both in terms of reliability and performance. In terms of the Vertex, while OCZ has a poor track record in the past, their customer service/warranty support has also been superb, and their prices are competitive. Plus a lot of the problems with OCZ in the past can be attributed to the SF controllers (which is in part why Intel delayed their 520 series for over a year). In fact, someone did a survey in the past and found that most SSD vendors have roughly the same failure rate (except Intel).

I personally would go for the Samsung just because I hate downtimes and RMAs, but I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Also consider Intel 520 (using one ATM, loving it) and crucial M4. Make your choice based on the price in your locality (in NZ, we only have intel and OCZ; Samsung and crucial drives are rare as heck), the performance of the drive (if that matters to you) and whether or not you are willing to pay extra for a better track record and longer warranty (eg Intel).

The Indilinx drives use a Marvell controller with OCZ firmware. The Vertex 4 is just the Octane overclocked and tuned firmware. The Vertex 4 runs very hot. I would use a fan to cool HDD bay to keep it cool. I do that for all my HDDs and SDDs anyways.
