Shipping isn't what i was worried about, but rather the physical safety of the drive.

Thats what I was trying to say. Physically they are very similar. No harm to send, well padded.

If you look for a free online solution, consider (properly) setting up an FTP server software on your PC? That's the usual way.

If you don't have a clue about servers, this might get dangerous though. But buying a dedicated (V-)server will be harder and liabilities are worse.

Why wouldn't I host on a server, stream from the server, update the server to make it available on all devices, keep media players linked to the server, etc etc etc. Because that's just not the way I do it. And there is no way my parents will do any of that. And while I really appreciate the knowledge and suggestions, that's also not what I asked. But I DO see tremendos value in finding a way to send them videos online rather than with the method of mailing a drive. It's just that each video is usually 500 to 700 MB. Sometimes more when it's a film. Anyway, I do appreciate the help. It's just that a lot of it is coming off as, "this is how you SHOULD do it unless you're a moron".

OK, then. Put your media on an SSD, hard drive, thumb drive or a bunch of floppy discs. Put it in a box, put a stamp on it and mail it.

Just in case anyone's interested, I transferred a 20MB audio file via TeamViewer in 1min30sec.

There are big USB thumb drives, like 128 GB and bigger I think.

What I'm getting at, is that maybe a USB thumb drive is, by design, more robust and able to handle bumps and shocks a lot better than an SSD drive? You can put a thumb drive on a keychain and it will survive.

So maybe, you could switch from using SSD drive to USB. Then you mail the USB drive and it will survive any mishandling in the mail much better than a larger more fragile SSD drive. Maybe you'll save shipping costs too - just toss the 128 GB USB thumb drive into a padded bubble-wrap-lined envelope mailer and done.

Do you mean just using Filezilla and connecting to the IP address at the other computer?

What are some options for buying dedicated server space? I don't know any companies that do this.

I live in New Zealand and have I think 250 gigs of storage on One Drive that I upload pics and videos for my folks. I've set it up so its shared for them and they just access it like a website and browse. Works great. Sure is better than sending flash drives around the world.

Speed is excellent. And this is with NZ internet which is only slightly better than US internet (seriously, US internet is worse than NZ's)

I have posted in my previous post in this thread a link to "kimsufi.com"

they offer 500gb for 5euros per month, and 1tb for 10 euros per month.

I'd go for a direct ftp connection, throttled well below a 10 Mbit upstream it'll take a few days, but it'll get there eventually.

Maybe get a NAS on both ends if it works well but you don't want to keep pc's on all the time.
