i went to the compaq site to get the pocket pc 2002 upgrade and those bas*ards are wanna charge me $30 and up....
maan....thats unfair.

also, after installing activesync 3.1, i plugged in my ipaq thru the usb cradle and win2k detected this and rebooted.. but after rebooting, win2k always finds the same usb device and BSOD'ing

anyone know why?

there's abso no info in the big ipaq box too about all this....where do i go for more info on this model?

Do you honestly expect us to believe you bought 12 ipaqs at $200 a pop for Christmas presents as you stated? And then stated you bought 10 of the 3135's too! Then mentioned buying more a "couple" weeks ago at Staples!

LOL. Hmmm...let's see, if I wouldn't buy mine, the next guy might have bought them all to put on EBAY...or the managers/employees might have grabbed them, as you know they have been. Or is there a guarantee that the ones I wouldn't buy, would be available for you to purchase for your personal use? Face it, you snooze, you lose...we all knew about this deal way in advance, and anybody that supposedly 'needs' the 3635 (nobody actually NEEDS a pocket computer), had the means AND an EQUAL opportunity to obtain it. I got up 4 hours early to get the deal, and that's exactly what I did. I feel no guilt for it. There are 5,600 other Radio Shack stores that had them, and my 12 are a drop in the bucket. AND guess what? There were STILL plenty of units available in my local area 8 HOURS after I snagged mine, AND there will be more of the 3635s coming into the distribution centers. AND as if that's not enough, you can get them at other chain stores for LESS than I paid if you really want them that badly. There are plenty of 3635s still available out there - tens of thousands. Seems that some people spend excessive time complaining about other people...when they could be out there GETTING the deal instead.

I'd highly recommend that you install ActiveSync 3.5 which fixes many problems with ActiveSync. For any others just receiving their iPAQs, I'd recommend skipping the ActiveSync CD and just downloading and installing ActiveSync 3.5. You could avoid a lot of headache.

so what if someone wants to buy 12 or 120? if this deal was really that important to someone they would have called in sick to work or went to radioshack on their lunch break. granted, some people will be upset that they didn't get any and it doesn't really help if someone is bragging about how they got a dozen...but you win some and you lose some. the next hot deal is only a short while away. anyway, in a couple of years we will all wonder why anyone would have paid $200 for such a primitive device.

I find it silly that people jump on a guy that buys a bunch of hot deal items. He has the connections and speed and takes the risks, so all the luck to him. If it's a gift, good. If it's intended for ebay, then the money will end up buying better gifts. Same difference. Heck, I wish I could get my hand on a few. Hey guys, great news ... First of thanks to whoever started this post ... because of it, I am sitting here chargin' my brand spanking new 3635 right now ... I went to my local Sears, broke out the Sears card and PM two of them (one for me and one as a X-Mas Gift for my sister) ... they are VERY nice [review from a 1st time Pocket PC user at the bottom] ... Sears gave me no headache whatsoever about it, they were like, "Sure, we are aware of Radio Shack's sale, here you go..." and they knocked $200 off of the price of the handheld ... oh, and I was told it does not qualify for the 10% add'l off for using my Sears card ... although I was able to talk them into giving me no payments until June 2002 ... by then hopefully the rebate(s) will be here

RADIO SHACK UPDATE: Every RS on the East Coast is wiped out of them...including the Distribution Centers...inside track...the dist. centers will be getting a shipment in on Friday which will go out to the ind. stores on Monday. This is confirmed from a regional manager I spoke with ... he said the problem is that all the employees and managers bought these up the first time ... with the second batch no employee will be able to partake in them ... also, if he cannot get me one, he said he will "work" something out with me ...

REVIEW FROM ME (PROBABLY BIASED SO SUE ME!): Took it out of the box, which was very sturdy mind you ... good protection for the PC (in case anyone is getting them shipped) ... plugged it in and charged it right up ... waited a little while, I think the sheet says 3 hours and if you can hold out that long to play with a new gadget, then you are better than me ... it had me orient the system, put my info in and I was up and running ... BEAUTIFUL DISPLAY ... I am honestly in AWE of how nice the little thing looks, I did not expect this whatsoever ... switching apps, saving stuff ... all a breeze ... the stylus is SUPER simple to use (even with the display keyboard) ... software installs easily (even the upgrade to AS 3.5) ... still playing around with it but I will surely post more once I play with it some more ... oh, first time I ever actually WON at SOLITAIRE (LOL) ... oh, the only thing I find wrong with it is that the speaker is a little "tin can" sounding ... but what was I expecting? Klipsch style sound? ... overall, I would HIGHLY rate picking one up ... even for new users ...

This must not be a well known deal here. They had 3 when I called this morning and 3 when they closed.
I had them reserve one but I really don't know what these machines actually do so it seems rather silly to buy for nothing.
I am driven to buy by the word "sale" or "rebate" lol I looked on Ebay and they were foing for about $290 for NIB. I guess if I miss out

Somebody said upstate NY...costs a few cents to make a couple of calls to different districts, and the store can check all the other stores in their district. They'll ship it to you free of charge.

Hey guys, I just installed Pocket PC 2002, its much better then whats included with the 3635. I highly suggest upgrading as soon as possible, since you'll have to move your old stuff over manually (or never at all if you dont have anything personal on it yet)

Its not difficult to find, just search for pocket pc on any internet software listing *cough*

I do not suggest anyone installing a bootleg copy of pocketpc 2002. From what I read from the compaq website this voids your warranty so you maybe SOL if anything happens during the upgrade. You might think that you could flash back to the old OS but from what I read in the discussion group some have had problems doing that. Also pocketpc 2002 is going to take up all of the ROM space as well as some of RAM as well. This will cut down on the 32mb of available memory space.

My friend bought the Casio EM500 for 299 two days ago and he told him mom to get the price adjusted for 199. I work in Greenwich CT and my friend went back today and got 1 only and maybe they'll have another ipaq tomorrow.

A lot of the little RS store are so small they dont even carry these item in stock and they said the magik word "order", like they know its in stock or not.

Scored one!! They're all out in Las Vegas, BTW. $225 after taxes. I am in LOVE with it! It is SO much better than my Visor Deluxe. Thanks to the OP!! (BTW I got an H3635). $33 AR 128 CF in the mail!! Now I can take it to work out This solves the MP3/PDA problem!

BTW don't try to load a "free" PocketPC... there are warnings about that... you'll end up having to send it to Compaq for repair! Come on it's just $30 for the upgrade...

Oh and if you have a Microdrive DO NOT STICK IT IN THE CF slot. Microdrives need a springing mechanism-device. You won't be able to get it out. Compaq can, but the Microdrive will be ruined. Buy the PC Card adapter and then you can use that.

Anyone know of cool accessories for it?
