PPC2002 v2.14 is the final Compaq release version. However, I know
people who obtained 36xx series iPaqs through legitimate channels
that came with PPC2002 v2.07. In addition, I know at least two
people who loaded PPC2002 v2.07 using a flash that they obtained
on the Web, and then subsequently upgraded to v2.14 without problem.

So although I don't recommend using Warez, I think this more
about scare tactics than anything else.

The new version of the OS means it's skinnable out of the box (instead of spending $20-30 on
a skinning program. There's your OS cost right there.) In addition, it's got the new version
of Reader that allows you to read secure ebooks on your PocketPC (current version doesn't).
Finally, the new OS includes MS instant messenger. Any one of those is a killer app, and
getting all three is sweet indeed.

my local RShack told me 349 is after MSN agreement and showed me the ad for it also. It was dated Novemner 24 and good till Christmas. i asked her if all RShacks have same prices and policies. her reply, "I've been a manager here for 15 years and every RShack has the same exact prices. " 15 years!!!! That explains everything....

OK I don't want to scare anyone here just a thought. If you use an illegal copy of PocketPC 2002 and your upgrade goes fine. What if you need to have warranty work done on it in the future. Many color ipaq owners have had dust problems on their screen, and stuck stylus issues. If this happens you risk the chance of compaq discovering your illegal copy of pocketpc 2002 when you send it in.

Chanfo the upgrade is done from a cd Compaq sells, so as long as you upgrade with compaq's pocket p 2002 cd, no one will be able to tell the difference between your copy and some else who didnt pay for it.

oh and I just picked up the last model at my local sears, it was another display, but still brand new.

But get this, I can get an AMEX card, but I didnt get approved for a sears card on the spot, wtf?
oh well, atleast I have a second one to give away for christmas.

She's wrong. The MSN deal is for a different model. I'd ask her to call corporate, or get them on the phone for you. Every Radio Shack in the friggin country is selling them for $349 without any MSN crap attached.

For all people living in west los angeles area: I will return my IPAQ on Saturday at the RS on Wilshire and 20th in Santa Monica. I bought two, and I am too lazy to sell it on Ebay and wait for the rebate, so I just figure I will return it. Probably do this in the early morning before my final.

BTW, anyone knows where to get Pocket maps 2001?? This is the free one (2002 is not). MS took the 2001 out of their site

I don't normally post deals because I can't find anything worth posting, so I know how you feel. I'm just glad you posted it early so many of us had a chance to snag an ipaq before the sale started (and in some cases before the store employees knew!)

Yeah Jb, thanks for the deal..... I have now "saved" so much money between the BB Thanksgiving deals and this Ipaq that I am broke..... (Heheheh) I also end up lurking here more, but I try to make up for it in the other forums helping people out with their questions...

BTW, I know this isn't a "warez" board, and we should be happy with the deal we got, but it still kind of burns to know we missed the free 2002 upgrade by 5 days..... (Nuts!!!)

Well, I've called just about every Radio Shack within reasonable driving distance...and managed to only find "display" models. I was told by a few stores that they were expecting more to arrive next week though...

The question is...do I believe this or just snag the display models with the doubled warranty...hmmmmmmm...what do you guys think?

Sweet ! Hadn't found that yet--guess I was too preoccupied with ZeoGolf 2 and eWallet. Really nice mix of software included with this. Gigabar and Pocket Informant are the only two things I'm installing otherwise. Well, maybe Pocket Quake. And PocketNES.

Wolverine: I got a display model, it was in a locked case. It looked new, not even a fingerprint. Everything was there except the power adapter, and they had it in the back somewhere. No regrets. Just be sure you get everything, including the CF sled and expandable case. Of course, you need the box for the UPC code, even if you do the online rebate.

JRez - Did you happen to get a non-display model? I called the store in South Hills Village and he said that there were four in the district and all were probably display models.

Thanks for the advice vicdoc...I'll probably go for it...since they're "locked" up in the glass case they're probably in decent shape...plus I don't really trust these guys about more coming in.

Besides JustinCase will probably buy up all 10,000 remaining units and donate them to the local homeless shelter as "small" tokens of Christmas generosity
