<< Any way, do you guys know which files should I get to installed to iPAQ 3635 ? Mips, SH3, or Arm ? >>

ARM. These have an Intel 206MHz StrongARM processor.

One app I would HIGHLY recommend installing is Gigabar. It greatly improves the functionality of the taskbar, and allows you to close running apps with a single click. Best of all, it's free.

To those missing the ac adapters or buying display models, make sure you get your AC adpter. I went to pick up mine and was taking inventory of everything when I asked the manger "uhm my rechargable Prism needs an extra ac adapter an this doesn't?" The guy thought a bit, looked at the cradle and went "oh!", searched a bit and found the adapter lying at the side somewhere. Double check your package any lost parts will cost you extra for replacement! :frown:

Thanks for the deal, always wanted one but never could afford it. *mini review* Now I have to learn PPC and sheez no wonder many people prefer Palm (learning curve is lower). I took to Palm in an instant and PPC is a whole other animal, took a while to get things to work out, hate the fact you don't shut down programs but just leave them. I am loving it thru got tired of dealing with three or four modules. Now just have to get all my data from my Prism to my iPaq and upgrade to a 128MB or 256MB CF. And boy the screen is really impressive! Probably be able to see quite clearly in direct sunlight, ah, unlike my poor but formerly lovely Prism.

<< I was just wondering if it would be all right to start a thread about free software for it? >>

I would suggest visiting one of the sites I suggested above; they have appropriate forums for that. Anandtech doesn't, unless you use "Off Topic", but it will wind up buried.

<< BTW don't try to load a "free" PocketPC... there are warnings about that... you'll end up having to send it to Compaq for repair! Come on it's just $30 for the upgrade... >>

I'd have to agree. There are bootleg copies of PPC2002 floating around which were written for other hardware. I'd stick with the version of CE that's already on it, or buy the real PPC2002 upgrade.

Staples sucks! I bought my Ipaq there and they won't pricematch radioshack because the ones within the 50 mile radius are sold out. They also won't pricmatch lacc.com or compu-america.com. This is because it says "*Does not qualify for Compaq mail-in-rebate" on these sites. Does anyone know where else there might be a cheap Ipaq that I can pricematch to. Also can you pricematch b&m if you bought your ipaq online?

Bad news all, went to Radio Shack last night, Wednesday. The price is valid however their warehouse is all out of the IPAQ?s. Too bad it was a sweet deal.

They have more than one distribution center, and are apparently expecting more 3635's, so don't give up yet. There are still a lot of these out there.

This is a great little PPC for $200. Well worth a little extra effort.

Staples and RS's all over MA and RI have 3635's in stock. Pricematched mine at staples last night and used the $40 coupon...doesn't get much better.

Think the total was $330 with tax - $150 MIR = $180

Called my local radio shack, out of stock.

Went to the one by my office, also out of stock.
So they tried to order one, out of stock.

So they called other local stores. Since sales are commission based, everybody else said. out of stock.

Called one of the stores that was supposed to have 2, but had said out of stock. Oh, they have one now. I told them I didn't want the demo, I wanted a new one. He said it wasn't, and would hold it for me. I called again that afternoon to verify again that it was a new one, not the demo because it was an 1 and a half round trip during rush hour to get it. He said it was new.

I got there and now he said it was opened and had been checked out once or twice. I said ok. thinking it was radio shack, if they had one (because they usually don't) opening it once or twice was ok. So I bought it anyway. I get it home and I'm looking at the box and notice it says it has a double warranty (two years) because "This item is a customer return or demo model".

WTF???????

So I called my office depot this morning, they said they can get it from the warehouse and can pricematch (only because I have a reciept that I already got it for a lower price). We'll have to see.

I hate radio shack more than any other electronics store, since they are on commission for everything they are worse than used car dealers. Jerks.

<< Need to play .mpg files with that 3635 that you just got ?

Go Here!

I just installed this cos windows media won't play mpg.

Any way, do you guys know which files should I get to installed to iPAQ 3635 ? Mips, SH3, or Arm ?
>>

WMP will play MP3's, they need to reside in the 'My Documents" folder.....I recommend the 7.1 upgrade at MS until you get your PC2002 OS (it has an even better version)

I can't believe anyone is whining about a $30 OS!!!!!!!! Go price what it takes for a Palm to work with your Office documents....and still not have I.E., WMP, PV, and a lot more.....

Most portable CD Player chargers will work with them.....also go to www.newegg.com and get a 128MB CF card for around $43...works great!

Do not put stick screen protectors on, they can harm the mebrane, use regular transperencies, there's a template and much more here: www.pocketpassion.com

Another great place: www.pocketnow.com.

Another great news/info/whatever channel site like Avantgo: www.manzigo.com

Gregs IPAQ software list (lots of freebies) http://www.ipaqsoft.net/

You can even find games like Quake, Wolfenstien, FLight Simulator, and anything else you can think of.....

Anyone know if the West Coast RS's are getting more in? Trying to get some for some co-workers.

Cheers!

What do you need to use the Sprint Wireless Modem card with this ?

I'm gonna buy one and have the Modem and am wondering how much more it's gonna cost in order to go online.

The Sprint Wireless thread has disappeared and I apologize if this has already been asked and answered here.

Gimme a break, it's my birthday and I'm buying myself this Ipaq as a present to myself (as if I needed justification to buy this).

In any Radio Shack I've been in, the "demo" model is not kept where people can actually play with it; it's in a locked glass case with other PDAs, and usually taken out only if someone requests it, or if it's sold. If this is the case here, and the unit doesn't look beat, I'd buy it. I mean, a free extended warranty is kinda nice, and better than you'd get with a non-demo unit.

Just my opinion, but the "demo" units are probably worth considering. If it's clean, functional, and has the same warranty as a new unit, why not consider it?

FYI - if you do that you better make certain that you get the PC2002 upgrade for the H3100 & H3600 series as it is different than the Compaq PC2002 upgrade for other Compaq models such as the H3700 series and the "generic PC2002 upgrade". The H3100 and H3600 series have only 16MB ROM and using a PC2002 upgrade intended for other iPAQ models that have 32MB or 64MB ROM will ruin your 3635 unit. The upgrade will freeze mid-update and cannot be recovered withour sending your unit to Compaq. All you will end up with a $200 brick. The Compaq warranty dos not cover flashing an incorrect or illegal OS version . Their standard non-warranty repair for this problem is $250.00 and even then you just end up back where you startded with PocketPC 1.01. LOL

Actually there are a few 3600-series iPaqs that came with 32MB flash ROM, but it's
very hit or miss as to whether or not you'll get one. And from what I heard, the
update doesn't take advantage of the extra ROM space on a 3600. So it's only
a benefit if you decide to toss the Microsoft OS and go with Linux.

Also, be very very very careful about the warezed updates floating around.
The reason Compaq has been so late (2 months late) in delivering the upgrades
to people who ordered them is that they had issues with fitting the OS into
that 16MB ROM. My advice is to pay the man (Compaq) his money and make
sure you get the real thing...

This isn't a warez site, folks. Let's keep it legal--or at least keep it somewhere other than AT.

I would highly recommend buying the proper version as well. Many people have toasted their iPaqs out of impatience for Compaq's release of the proper version. I didn't get this deal just to fry my iPaq; I'll spend the $30.

Hum... after reading all of these messages I think I will reconsider. $30 to compaq isn't that bad I guess cause the my ipaq will still be under warrenty.

Gotta pay the man if i want the software to work eh...

oh well $30 is $30 and thats only a penny compared to what i saved on the ipaq so good deal still eh

thanks again to you all

I got the Viking CF for $33 at Amazon.com... Viking has a $25 rebate that ended Dec 3rd (bought it then)... $58 out of pocket before rebate. Newegg has 128meg CF cards for $48 shipped. $15 more is not that big of a deal.

Scored 4 in the portland,ORr area.

I had reserved a brand new one in the washington square mall on monday that they where suppose to transfer from another store. When I got there all he had for me was the display model, which I had told him I did not want. I had already paid 549 (to PM later). When I refused to take the display model, the salesman became really sleazy: "what if I give YOU a BIG BIG discount" could not contain my laugher, told him to take a hike. Anyway, there was one display model available as of 8pm on Tues a Wash. Sq.

Many thanks to the original poster
