What you're looking for are either (1) places like FTD that have a network of florists, or (2) to find a florist local to the delivery area and going through them directly.

I agree with the FedEx/UPS boxes.

Yeah, what fuzzy bee said. Or, if she's near you...

(3) Have the online stuff deliver to you, then you deliver them in person. MOre points this way anyways.
(4) Pick some up from local grocery store/florist, and deliver them yourself.

get a living potted mini rose bush, cala lilies, or other potted plants from safeway or andronicos or some other nursery or store. Not only are they cheaper (which would be the hot deal part for most of you) they last longer (all year, or at least the season) ... and you can transplant them into her garden together or leave them brightening the room

The store is Tillies in Wichita, Ks.

Uh. the rosebush sounds nice ... or the 2 dozen roses.
Does anyone know if they will be sold out if you try to buy those on v-day?
Buying the roses now would only ensure that they are ready for the trash on friday (buying them on friday they might actually make it over the weekend.)

i'm sorry but Valentine's Day is the crappiest holiday of the year. Period. It totally commercializes love, and rubs it in the face of those who are alone. It's totally lost sight of any original purpose it had beyond making money for Halmark, chocolate producers, flower growers, and DeBeers.

I know it's not a hot deal, but it had to be said.

Hehe, we all know Saint Valentine was a real preist who wasnt not supposed to marry and he did, so they hung him. 100s of years later this guy writes about St. Valentine and makes a comment of people falling in love or something. And guess, some smart ass from Hallmark gets to read this book, and Voila!!! one of the biggest commercial festive event is invented. Now you may argue using this fact, that its a bogus day to gift your girl something. But hey, would your girl listen ? , when she is expecting something, and she has an excuse to expect something. I dont think I am gonna buy anything on Feb 14th, though I keep buying flowers and gifts for my gf every now and then. If St. Valentine was alive today, he would say everyday is Valentines day , there is nothing special about the day he died

Just my 2 cents

I agree 100%!! If people can't express their love for each other 364 days of the year, Valentine's Day isn't going to make any difference.

Name another celebrated holiday that's not commercialized. I can name some others that are commercialized, Birthdays, New Years Eve, Presidents Day, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah and now Kwanzaa. I'm sorry if I missed any.

Face the facts, almost everything is commercialized in some way, shape or form.

Thanks for the post fuzzy bee, some of us appreciate it.

Last time I checked, none of the other holidays you listed target an audience and in the process severely depress another large audience. In a society that is so romanticocentric, a holiday that reminds people they are in love while reminding others they are alone, to me, serves no greater purpose. Moreover, the holiday itself was never a purely non-commercial entity. All of the others evolved into commercial entities. As nice as the rememberance of St. Valentine is, it was never the primary purpose of the day. It was just a convienent story to attach. Need I remind you of the Simpsons episode satirizing this very thing with Love Day?

You shouldn't need a holiday to remind you to act in love and do nice things for your significant other. If you do, you're living a sad existance.

And what does this have to do with getting good deals on roses? Please just steart your own thread in ATOT.

Personally I get totally depressed on President's Day when I sit there and think about who our president is.

I just came back from Costco at Pentagon City, VA. Roses are $15/dozen. A good selection, and a good price, but prices might vary by location or they are price gouging as well.
