Gamebryo a decent engine, no loading between areas? You sure you played Fallout 3? Not that X-Ray was anything more than a dated engine with a lot of coats of paint, but still...Never could get into stalker much. I remember playing oblivion then stalker SoC and thinking to myself:
"if only they could make a fun easy to get into game with a decent engine (none of that loading screen between areas BS) but with the setting/atmosphere of stalker it would be epic!"
Later bethesda delivered fallout 3 and the rest is history :awe:

I absolutely loved STALKER and played through it about 10 times over the years. Game companies can go on and on about how interesting their enemies are, but I still have not seen a shooter that came anywhere near STALKER's mutants. That loud screaming thing that shoots a wave of force down a tunnel at you... both unique and actually scary.
Sad day. I was looking forward to a sequel.

Fallout 3 having the same setting and atmosphere as STALKER? Surely you kid. Fallout 3 can't even touch STALKER in terms of atmosphere and immersion, IMO.

Agreed. Nothing can touch the STALKER series for atmosphere and immersion.

Stalker - Post apocalyptic wasteland with guns
Fallout 3 - Post apocalyptic wasteland with guns, but better
Gamebryo is buggy but its still 100x better than what they used in stalker.

I wouldn't describe STALKER as post-apocalyptic. It takes place in a relatively small area that was effected by a reactor explosion. The rest of the world is doing just fine.
FO3 doesn't really have much in the way of FPS mechanics (select a body part and let the computer shoot it for you... ). The game is more of an adventure / RPG in a first-person perspective. The fact that they're both sandbox-style games is about the only real similarity I see.
The art direction is vastly different. STALKER is everything from haunting to beautiful. Fallout is pretty much a grey junkyard of broken concrete and dirt.
that said, FO3 is definitely more "gamey" but I say bring it on.
WTF here...I felt Stalkers tried too hard to be atmospheric, whereas FO3 was quite natural about it.
As for the shooting, Stalkers are a turd, 2D looking weapons with sticky gun mechanics and questionable hit detection, plus, FO3's shooting is greatly improved if you crouch, zoom, and have a decent amount of points in small/big guns.....
what? no one blamed piracy? wtf
