I've basically narrowed my choice of a new 42" HD-TV to a panasonic plasma and samsung DLP. I haven't been able to compare both in standard mode...has anyone done the comparison?

Agreed, but I believe there's a premium. But why not Pioneer? My experience with Panasonic is they deliver great price but mediocre quality. Pioneer just kills everyone in plasma.

Panasonic is well regarded as having just about the best plasma screens in their price range. They are rated very well.

The Samsung 42" DLP has a noticeable drop in quality from the rest of the DLP line, so between 42" plasma and 42" DLP I'd probably go with the plasma.
If it's between a 42" 720p plasma and a 50" or 56" 1080p Samsung DLP I'd definitely go with the DLP.
My 50" 1080p DLP works quite well for SD comcast cable signals, as well as 480i DVD, even VHS tape looks decent.

My roommate just got his 42" Panasonic Plasma yesterday. (60U?) And it's gorgeous. Even with digital (non-HD) cable, it looks great!

Yes, I have the 60U and the SD looks good with the FIOS, but Comcast (Digital) looked like total ass! The carrier makes a difference apparently.

Awesome TV. Great price. Is tweeter a well known reputable dealer though?
At $1299 for the HDTV model TH42PX60U why would anyone buy the EDTV for $1200?

OP: Pull the trigger on the 60U ... That is an unreal price...
