I recently reformated my computer and I have a couple of problems after reinstalling WinXP. Under Computer, in Device Manager, the words Standard PC is displayed. What does this mean? I am curious to know if this is the cause of my problems. The problems are 1.) When shutting down my computer, the old style of "It is now safe to shut down your computer" appears, also 2.) I am unable to update my hard dirve. The Device Manager is saying I have a "Maxtor 6Y102M0 SCSI Disk Device" and I don't think I have a "SCSI." So I know a lot of problems, but I was hoping someone from these forums could help. Thank you very much.

Also, a few of my specs if it helps:
MOBO: ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe
CPU:AMD XP 2700+
512 MB of ram

Please tell me if I can provide any more information that might help. Thanks.

Try installing updated chipset drivers for the asus mobo, that should help with at least part of your problem.
AFAIK, the old-style shutdown screen was for non-ATX motherboards, which allow software to power down the system. Correct me if I'm wrong.

you need to supply alot more information if you want help.

what did you do before this started happening?

MadMan, your partially correct.
The Old-style shut-down screen will appear anytime windows cannot fully shut down the system. This issue can arise due to any number of factors.

Re: the SCSI issue. That's normal for the nForce mobo's. It just means you using the nForce IDE driver instead of the Microsoft driver. When XP see's another (3rd party) driver it automatically labels them as SCSI. It's not a problem, it's normal.
