I was at Target getting a few things today and noticed a Stanley mechanics tool set on clearance for $13.18. The set includes a storage case.

No rebates, no hassles.

I looked around on the net a bit and this seems like a decent deal.

There's an allied version of this at Amazon.com Here's a pic of the set at Amazon. The Stanley set is similar to the Allied version.

Hope it helps somebody!

Edit: I should point out that YMMV according to some of the posts here. Also the item number on my receipt is "085050801". It's NOT on Target's website. The stanley part number is 85-826, however, I didn't find it on Stanley's website.

Excellent deal. Nice catch. Don't forget...Stanley has life-time replacement. Even if you find one at a tag sale and it's all rusted over, you can send it back for full replacement.

Any word on whether this is common at other Target stores? I think I might stop by Target on my way home from work.

But are these good?
I was changing the brake master cylinder on my car and I was using one of those cheap wrenches. Even though the wrench was a size 10, it shaved it pretty bad.
I then used a craftman wrench which fit it perfectly and my problems were over.
I now know why you need precision tools. Are these any close?

Very common.

This was posted in the Versapak tool thread and they've been 75% off for over 2 weeks in my area. Most strores still have them and they aren't marked clearance in any way.

I know for a fact the redmond washington store is sold out

They are perfect for a "in case i break down on the side of the road" set of tools.

Exactly... I might get one for my truck and one for my house so I don't have to run to the garage to get a stupid wrench or whatever to fix the random broken thing of the day.... Never know when they'll come in handy.

There are very few things you can't fix with a set of Vice Grips and a screwdriver I'll check the Targets by my house for this...nice price.

I got a 111 pc stanley tools set for xmas which was from Target. Mine looks different then the one at amazon though. They have worked really well. I got to test them out at my friends house. We are doing a restoration of his DMC Delorean. We are doing a top end overhaul of the engine. They didn't strip at all, and these are some tuff bolts to take off...

They had 8 or so left at the Ft. Worth, TX Super Target by Bryant Irvin on Saturday... though they were priced $14.98.

Maybe snap-on or matco are accurate.. but your not paying those prices. It's a beater set made in CHINA or INDIA. Fine for guys that don't use tools often or throw in the back of a trunk.

BTW Harbor Freight is a good source for cheap tools too..

I wish target wasn't a 1 1/2 hour drive from here... I'd jump on this for a set of tools to toss in the trunk and forget about. I have a little more faith in Stanley than the other brands of cheapo disposable tools sold in the likes of Wally World or Kmart. These would be a nice set of tools to give to a kid to get him started on the path to "mechanically inclined".

[edit] to a kid to get him or her started.
Sorry ladies.

Then again, I've never known a female who did their own brake work.
