staples $0.01 MSN CD has OLD version of MSN messenger (unlimited PC to phone call)

Why not use yahoo messenger? Or here's a bold ideal...use net2phone! MSN and Yahoo both uses net2phone technology, and using net2phone directly it's still unlimited, free, and same quality as msn or yahoo. MSN messenger just go way too popular and net2phone decided to cap msn member's usage to five minutes.

I like Dialpad better than the MSN crap. But unfortunately, when I try to use Dialpad on my 2000, or 98 machine it crashes the mofo!

Dialpad has never really given me problems, and the quality is pretty good (and I'm on a DSL line too, rather than a more bandwidth-leniant cable line). Sometimes the Java appletts decide not to respond, but a quick hit of the Refresh button takes care of that. It works fine through my hardware firewall when I opened the proper ports. I just love having monthly phone bills of $12-14.

Wow, didn't realize they did that to MSN Messenger till you mentioned it. Thats pretty lame I say. Doesn't Microsoft realize Dialpad is out there for free?

Can't imagine anyone calling to talk for only 5 minutes, not LD anyways. Thats plain stupid.

If anyone could afford to do this for free, you would think it would be Microsoft. I've used both Dialpad and Messenger, looks like its all Dialpad now.

Discovered running version 3.5 doesn't fix it either. It shows free, but after 5 minutes it quits with an error.

Just go to: and download the full, FREE version of their software. MSN uses a scaled-down version of this program in MSN IM, NO java in the full version and UNLIMITED calls. I called my Mother last night and spoke for over an hour.

net2phone doesnt work with some firewalls
And Dialpad has been giving me problems.. the other side couldnt hear
me after a few minutes or seconds. It use to work geat for me. Now
I have to find another way

I must be doing something wrong. I've tried all these services and none of them have provided anywhere near usable quality. I'm not listening for a pin drop, I can barely make out a sledge hammer fall. And I'm on DSL with 1.2m down and 340 up.

To add to my misery, Nortel has stopped their 5 minute free call.

On the bright side I suspect in a few years quaility LD will drop to a penny a minute, too bad I need to make calls today. Maybe I can put them off.

I buy phone cards cause I don't wanna mess with booting up the computer. I just go into Chinatown and they have phone cards that are 1 cent a minute with like 50cent connection fee. It's not bad if you want to talk for a long time.
