I guess these Playos do suck. The fourth DVD+R that I burned, the drive can't even recognize the disc when I put it back in. The third DVD+R that I burned, it took a long time to recognize. A lot longer than my RICOHJPN-R01 DVD+R 4x media took.
All the discs were burned in an LG GSA-H55N 20X IDE DVD burner. Three at 20X, one at 16X, although I don't remember which one I burned at 16X. My guess is that the drive overspeeds MCC004 media to 20X in this drive, but this Playo may not take 20X burns that well.
Glad I bought those DVDs mainly to resell.
I wonder if you burn these at 8X, if they work better. Can anyone that has a drive that can do quality scanning, test this theory?
Edit: Darn. A fifth disc that I burned at 8X, failed verify at 99%.
Edit: That unreadable disc is readable in my friend's Samsung 183 burner, but it has errors near the end of the disc.
Edit: I burned another Playo DVD+R disc at 20X, and it wouldn't even register in the drive to read afterwards, but it reads and scans perfect in my other Optiarc 7170 drive.
There seems to be an incompatibility with my LG drive and these discs. Strange though that the first two discs I burned would read and verify fine. Perhaps these garbage discs damaged my drive; if the laser power had to be turned up to burn these, and it wore out my laser.
I think I'm going to purchase two Samsung 202J drives off of NewEgg for $25 ea.
I finally managed a successful burn and verify at 12X.
Edit: Darn. After it verified, I ejected the disc, and now it's unreadable again. The drive says that there is no disc inside.
