Staples 40x Verbatim (Liteon) CDRW make $5.25 before tax (YMMV)

Staples has the Verbatim 40x CDRW on final "F" clearance for $45.50. Many managers will give an additional 50% discount on "F" clearance items. There is a new $30 rebate available, enter the UPC 821582000031 in the Staples website rebate search page. $49.50 - 50% = 24.75 - $30 rebate = $5.25 profit (less tax). You can do similar deals on the Cendyne 32x and 40x drives if you can find them. They have a $50 rebate. Most are Liteon. Most will overclock. A few of the recent Cendynes were Aopen's. Better print the rebate before it disappears. There are also 10 off 40 and 15 off 75 coupons floating around.

LOL, 50% off F-status? I don't know a single manager that would do that on a $45.50 CDR/RW drive. If it was something that's been sitting for months on end then maybe, not on something that cheap. Our manager recently knocked off something like 70% off the list price of the Bose system we've had on clearance since August. I don't know of a single manager at my store or any other one around me that would do that to a $45.50 CDR/RW drive. $19.50 after rebate isn't too bad though

I've done this with 3 different managers recently. I believe the managers are highly motivated to get rid of final clearance items before Christmas. I don't think that selling "F" items below cost counts against the store's profit margin.

Verbatim rebates are EXTREMELY SLOW to come. I have six rebates from them from THREE MONTHS AGO and they still haven't arrived and CSR told me he doesn't know when they will come. So DO NOT count on those $30 to come anytime soon.

You'll only be able to find these in-store, and even then, you'll have to try your luck. My local Staples doesn't have any 40x burners at all.

Verbatim customer service or technical support sucks! Recently I have some problems with one of the drive I got. There is no way to talk to any customer service people via phone. I will never get another Verbatim drive for myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thats becuase you dont have anal managers working at your staples. if i get a printable coupon past mine i think its a deal. my staples just a bunch of freakin' morons, or actually really smart. 3 staples employees took that last 3 d135 deals left in the store. they use markers to cover barcodes on clearance items, miss tag clearance items.

LukFilm is right. My last Verbatim rebate came, however, it took 14 weeks. I even called at 9 weeks to check!!!

I picked up one of these tonight. Talked the manager down to $40.00 but he wouldn't budge on the coupon!

Anyway, brought it home and flashed it with the Liteon 48x12x48 firmware and all is well!

$10 + tax (after $30.00 MIR) is pretty darn good for a lite-on 48X burner....and it includes Mt. Rainier support too!
