I picked the ones that had the 8 mb buffer drives. I looked the serial numbers on the internet and both were made in January of this year and the warranties on both expire in 2006.

Easiest way to find out about a drive is to ask whick comp in the store is connected to the internet and look up the serial numbers yourself

Where do you check the serial numbers online to confirm the manufacture and warranty expiration dates?

Edit: Never mind... I found the link here

This is also $139.99 at OD. Maybe that will change when the
sale starts.

agreed - how can we pm and use the online $25 off coupon at OD?

What am I missing about the $10 IR? Doesn't seem to come up on the web site. Is it "in store" only maybe?

I just did it online and the $10 IR came right up. With the $20 off $100, it totalled to $93 with tax, so $63 after the MIR. Used the Amex Blue, so warranty is two years. Very nice and thanks for the Hot Deal.

Yeah it works for me now too. I guess 4 a.m. was a bit too early for the system changes to have kicked in.

$119.98 - $20 (coupon) - $10 (IR) - $30 (MIR) = $59.98!! $0.75/GB!

Hot for 8MB, although the 1 yr warranty is kind of a killer.

About a month ago, I submitted a rebate from Staples.com for a Maxtor drive (it was a 40gb 7200rpm drive). I was wondering if there were time limits to Staples rebates... i didn't see it mention in the fine print.

thanks.

Yeah!! I went in store to pick up and saw the different boxes available.

Only one box left with the lady (3-year warranty stated) and the box with the guy (1-year warranty stated). I applied a $30 Staples gift check (this is a one-time use from a specific Staples purchase from Christmas time).

So $109.94 - $30 Staples Gift Check + tax on 79.94 - $30 rebate = $54.74 !!! Awesome deal. Thanks to the OP!

For the 3-year warranty model too!!! I think the extra 2-years of warranty coverage is worth alot of money, if you think about it.

By the way, the link I provided earlier does not help you check the warranty until you get the box home and open it. There isn't enough info on the box "white label" to check (S/N alone does not do it). So if you have the opportunity to pick up the box with the lady, I think that's a safer bet... especially since your local Staples won't be happy about you ripping the box open to check the warranty!!

Frys..if one near your Staples..PM possible

To PM to Fry's, do I have to have one near me?
Also, to PM, do I just call 1800-3STAPLE AFTER I place the order online and tell them about Fry's price?

Purchased with $20 off $100 coupon, plus $10 IR plus $30 MIR

$119 - 10 = 109 - 20 = 89 - 30 = $59 in total.

Very nice deal imho.

Just bought in myself. Thanks ScrapSilicon!!!

I already went for this deal at Office Depot, but I figured for about the same price ($6 more) I'd go for this one as well to get the RAID lovin' going.

My total damage:

Office Depot $88.96
Staples.com $95.79
--------------------------
$184.75
- $30 MIR
- $30 MIR
--------------------------
$124.75 when all is said and done in 6-8 weeks.

Staples $30 MIR for this drive

Thanks for the rebate link. I thought that this Staples rebate and the OD one were the same, and that I'd only be able to get one drive. But there are two separate rebate offers, so the 160GB (80x2) RAID will be a go.

AT Hot deals is awesome!

Hmm thats bullcrap, if I get a drive with a 1 year warranty I am going to sell it and never buy another Maxtor drive again.

Western Digitial has 3 years on ALL their 8mb drives and offer a 2 year extention on every one year drive for only $20.

Yay, so I bit.
95.34 Including Tax - 30 Rebate and hopefully my Fry's PM will work.
For Staples rebate, do I need to include the original UPC from the box or just the original receipt plus the rebate form?

Wow, Staples is definitely really cool with PM. My CSR, Chris, got me PMed to Fry's price (I'm on the other side of the country with no Fry's) in less than one minute! Top notch.

04/09/03 UPDATE:
OK, so the drive comes in 2 days after I ordered (nice), and the box is the one with the lady on the front. Sweet, so I checked online at it is indeed a 3 year warranty drive.

I got the drive yesterday, with the lady on the box. How do you check online in the stores without opening the box? I have the serial off the UPC sticker, but what about these other codes they ask for?

NM: Saw from a post above that it isn't possible... Did anyone that got the lady box get anything other than the 3-year warranty?
