Well, here's a good story for you...
I went to the Staples store in Medina, OH (Montrose area for those of you who know the area) and found two APC Battery Backup 350's sitting on the shelf, right above a tag that said $14.60 as clear as day. The tag in question said "BATTERY BACK UP 35", so I figured it had to be the one that everyone is talking about. Up to the register I go with both units and a smile.
The cashier scans them in and politely informs me that they are $49.99 per UPS. "Ack!", I say. So, she runs over to the aisle and brings the tag back with her to scan it. Obviously they are not the same, so she lets me know that is was marked incorrectly and that the units I brought to the register were much more costly and not the ones being cleared out.
Bear with me, it gets better...
The store manager is strolling by and makes an inquiry as to what is going on. She tells him about the tag on the shelf and the scanned price. To my amazement he responds, "We made an error by displaying the product with the incorrect product tag, so go ahead and sell them for $14.60 like the tag says." He then adds, "Sorry for the mistake."
Holy cats!! Are you kidding me? Honest to goodness customer service?!
I immediately took cover, fully expecting the sky go fall at any second or at least a bolt of lightning. It really made no difference to me 'cuz I realize that mistakes get made and such, so I was ready to walk out the door without any grief at all. All I could do was stand there, stunned, and mutter, "Uh....gee, thanks."
Kudos to the manager at Staples.
