I don't know if this is the hot deal of the evening but Staples is loaded with calls at the phone center.

I called to see if they had the Spressa at Ingram Micro. Then I asked her to check for any Yamahas not mentioning what kind of Yamaha. I just said Yamaha. She came back and said the 8 X 4 X 32 was out of stock. Mind you I didn't even ask for that one. I then said what about any other Yamahas. She said all the drives were discontinued at IM. I said what about the SCSI drives that are listed on your site. She said we don't carry them anymore????!!! They show in stock on the 24 X 8X 4 for 375.

I wonder what kind of deal can be had on those if this is really clearance stuff.

I bought the Sony it the Spressa Int-IDE w/4mb buffer MODEL CRX145E/CH.
very nice. They had like a skid of the Sony's, half a skid of the Acer, and only about a Dozen Yamahas. The warehouse GM told me that it's overstocked, non-carry thru stuff (they're not selling these models anymore).

So If you're in range of Terre Haute, IN they're open tomorrow (at the South Industrial Park), like I said they had around 60-70 Sony's Friday night and most folks around here don't know what a computer is let alone cdrw...

they also have other stuff, like brand new E-Monsters @ $399 (if you like em -I don't) PIII5xx, 64mb, 15gb, DVD, 8mbTNT, etc.

Shake em up locally about this other stuff if you're in the look.

Got one of the last Sonys in the Bay Area, CA (had them inventory all of the local ones). It is indeed 79.90. The San Mateo store had FOUR of them, but all were gone (1 hour after I called from another store) and the one they put on hold for me was not there! I pressed the manager to do a physical check and after a while, he magically appears out of the back with one.

Hmmm...what happened to the other three?

Here is my humble suggestion. If you want this product and you have the money....

Buy it as is with his price
BUT

1. Try to negotiate pleasantly again with the Manager on the fact that it is a clearance item and other stores are selling it for X price.

2. When he refuses tell him you will be calling corporate on Monday and Investor Relations and get his name.

3. Call Corporate on Monday and tell them the story.

4. You should get the price match. If push comes to shove and the rest of us got a quirky deal and your manager is right then you can simply take it back.

5. If your manager is wrong then go for the gusto with Corporate and try to negotiate something extra for your trouble besides just the price match. We have gotten quite a few freebies for the hassles we have endured in being "Stapled".


My girlfriend just told me to add one alternative is if you have a tape recorder to take it in and tell him you would like to tape the conversation for reference since it is rather complicated and you want to make sure you have it all correct....blah blah blah. If you have a decent manager you don't have to resort to that but if you have a hard ass then you might have some power by having that on tape so he knows no lies can be told..Also, if you have a little folder that you could insert papers for reference along with some Consumer Advocate or Consumer protection booklet that also perks them right up...not to mention the infamous Policy and Procedure manual that has been posted on this site.

Went to my local Staples...had the kid punch the UPC into the computer...the price of the item came up and he was like, "Wow! it's only $99 now!" On the way back to check, he turns to his friend/coworker, "Dude! You know that Yamaha drive's only $99!"

He comes back and says they're all out...

I think I'll have to take him at his word...at the very least, to keep me calm...

Just picked up a Yamaha at Staples in West Los Angeles for 108$, they still have some Acer and Yamaha's left.
Unfortunately none of the 14 Staples I called here in LA has or had the Sony USB. Same with Ricoh mentioned here earlier.

FYI, the number given on the first page is the UPC code...I was told at staples that the SKU on the Yamaha is 428332

I was able to locate some Yamaha drives in Northern Virginia. I only had enough $$ on my to pick up one drive, but there's still one in the case - or at least there was about two hours ago. The Yamaha is in stock at the Manassas, Virginia store. Besides the one in the case, I'm not sure how many more they have.

It was kind of funny when I arrived at the store. The person behind the electronics counter tried to tell me that the drive was $249 because he put the pricing sticker on the case a week ago and the price did not go down $149. I said 'let me take the drive over for a price scan at the register'. It came up at $99.##. Also, I didn't see any Acer drives and I'm not sure if there were any Sony USB burners. Good luck!!!
