THE YAMAHA HAS A FAN!
Allthough it is very small and hardly to hear, I can't stand that. Even my Mac doesn't have a fan!
But the drive is really fast and it's spinning is silent.
But the fan is on constantly!

If anybody is interested in exchanging this 8x4x24 E-IDE drive (Mac compatible) with the slower Sony USB please let me know.

Everything is original, I haven't even opened the Program CD's yet, and I opened the box without damaging the 2 round glue-buttons.

We picked up the Spressa at Staples. As we were checking out my 7 year old daughter asked the regular retail price. When the person told her she said "Lets go 'GET' that Circuit City Manager." The Staples guy said "Oh yeah, go GET my competition for a change."

So we have been vindicated with Circuit City by wiping them out of Spressas at a greatly reduced price. The shelf price was around 249 if I remember correctly. Surprisingly, I did not have any problem with the price matching... which ticked off my girlfriend considering the difficulty that she had with the TIVOs. I think the manager at one of the locations either recognized her or my daughter but I can't be sure. He didn't come anywhere near the price match discussion.


Between that and all the Etoy 5.00 price matching we did at Wal Mart and Sears.. my vehicle was LOADED.

I just checked CC's website and they have something listed for 179. Will have to check out details to see if that is the same thing.

Just for your information, the Staples in Santa Ana on Bristol (Southern CA) has two Acer models left @ $129, but no Sony's or Yamahas. There were there when I last checked at 6 pm today. If ya hurry, I'm sure you can get it. I didn't cuz I'm not too hot on the Acer brand name.

I went to Staples last night and they had one of the sony and one of the Yamaha. I looked at the Sony and set it on the counter and was looking at the Yamaha and the manager came and snached up the Sony right from under my nose. Said she was holding it for somebody. So I asked her to give me the Yamaha for 79 and she wouldnt do it and said shed sell me the Sony if the costomer didnt pick it up that night. Well i put my name on the Yamaha and left. She called me at closing and said she was sorry and she would sell me the Yamaha for 79 and give me a 10 dollar gift cert.The customer didnt pick up the Sony so I went in today and got them both for 158 with tax! Good deal- Thanks for the post!!

Just snatched up a Sony USB drive for $87 with tax 30 min. ago...What a great deal. You guys are great. The guy at the counter almost dropped his jaw when he found out it's $79.90 instead of the $249.99 posted by the glass. I could tell he was disappointed that I got the last Sony from under his nose. There's no Acer or Yamaha available.

For those of you fortunate enough to get the Sony Spressa USB, just wanted to let you know it loads really easy under WinME (comes up as Sony CRX120). Download the following file if you have Win98/SE:

Do NOT load the Sony software -- it is awful and many users have had problems. After it is loaded and detected in Device Manager (really simple with USB devices), turn off the Auto Insert Notification (source of a lot of problems), and use good CDR/CDRW software like Nero or Adaptec EZCD Creator (I like version 3.5c with update) and burn away! The CDRW is recognized easily by these two programs and CD burns are excellent. Remember to try to minimize any background running apps during burns. At 4X, the USB bandwidth is close to maxing out.

Great piece of hardware. I love burning CDRs just by plugging it into my laptop.
