Regarding the 17" ProView monitor, I also stopped by my local Staples to check it out. No such animal. They had a 15" and a large pile of 17" CRTs. I asked a salesclerk about the one in the upcoming sale and he knew nothing about it. He claimed their store only carried the 15". Assuming the ad at the start of this thread is correct then either these stores simply are not going to carry this monitor or else they are getting a surprise delivery in the next few days.

Speaking of 17"ers being on sale for BF, BB is suppose to have the Samsung 712N for $249.99. I hope this is also not a vapor sale. There is currently a $50 rebate which expires this coming Saturday. The ad at the start of the BB thread shows another rebate (?) for $120. I stopped by the local Frys today also (some of us do not have much of a life) and they are running the $50 rebate on the Samsung. The clerk reallly liked this Samsung over competitors Hyundi and Daewoo. He knew nothing about what sort of deals Frys is offering on BF. They are opening at 6AM so maybe they have something planned.

One way or another I have my fingers crossed that at least one of these stores will come through.

Was told that there are ~ 2 dozen of the 17" proview lcd monitors at the staples store near me.

Will they PM themselves though?

For ANYONE who has actually seen the Print Ad - is there any mention of a deal on a Laptop?

I look at the other major retailers and they have laptops for BF but nothing at Staples...

I guess you just cant have everything.

I'll probably pick up ones of those, since I've been meaning to get one for a while. And $15 is good even without the rebate.

Somehow I suspect that could be a transposition, the item just below it is $5 off, with a much larger "easy rebate". I have a feeling that it has a $25 rebate, and is $5 off out the door.

If it is only $15, that's hot! Those PNY drives are nice, they have a write-protect switch too.

$39.98 - $20 instant - $10 Easy Rebate = $9.94. I know that math is off by $.04, but that's how it is printed in the ad. Ignoring that, good price before rebate, great price after!

Page 4 of the ad has two laptops on sale

(1) Averatec notebook: Athlon XP-M 2200+, 512MB DDR, 60GB HDD, DVD/CD-RW, 12.1 XGA TFT for $1000 - $100 instant - $100 MIR (Easy rebate)

(2) Compaq notebook: 1.4Ghz Celeron M, 512MB DDR, 60GB HDD, 14" high definition wide-screen, DVD-CD/RW for 1130 - 200 instant - 30 mfr. easy rebate =$900

I don't consider either of these to be great deals, but it might be what someone is looking for.

Thanks, and I agree they are terrible "deals" compared to what is out there even several days before BF 2004....

I just have a credit of over $750 burning a hole in my pocket that an adequate deal laptop might fill. Wouldn't mind a couple of LCD's but they are supposed to be coming down in price someday soon....

We have about a dozen or so of these monitors in stock at my store. We normally do not carry this monitor, so it will be a Black Friday only deal. You can get a good idea of what it looks like by looking at the 15". I think it's rated 250 on brightness, 450:1 on contrast, and 16ms resonse time, so it should work for most gamers.

It's the same case at my store. We have about a dozen stacked up in our high ticket room. Either the employees that you guys talked to were braindead or they were instructed not to talk about BF.

I don't get that. I mean, I want to encourage people to come to my store, the display isn't something we sell at regular price anyway, so why the tight lips? Probably someone similar to dotcommie who doesn't really care.

On the ad for staples they show Norton Antivirus/GoBack free for people who already own it, if you send in proof that you have it. Thing is do they want proof that you have both programs or is just one or the other good enough?

For those on the west coast here is my Staples Black Friday experience - I arrived at around 5:30 AM thinking that there wouldn't be that long of a line for Staples...I was wrong. While not as long as the line for Sears across the street, the line still wrapped all the way around the parking lot. AT around 10 minutes till 6, Staples employees started walking down the line with little coupons for most of the items on the first page that they expected to sell out of. They had as many coupons as items, so if they ran out of the coupons they didn't have enough of the item. The things that they seemed to run out of before the end of the line were the hard drive and the dvd burner, and they were running low on the USB drive coupons as well. The items that you needed to have coupons for were scattered throughout the store, the coupon said where to go and were good until 8AM, which I guess is when they would just put the items that were not picked up out on the floor. When the doors opened there was a mad rush to the paper shredder - which was only free if you purchased tax software, a fact that most people overlooked. Getting your ticketed item was fairly pain free except for the smaller items like the flash drivers and the compact memory, etc. You had to get these when you checked out. The checkouts were a mess. There were 2 lines wrapping all the way around the store, and there was no attempt made to control the lines. People were basically shoving their way up to the checkout by going down one of the middle isles. This combined with the long wait for all of the rebates to print made the checkout line take much longer than waiting before opening or waiting to get your ticketed items.

They still had coupons for several items after everyone was inside, they just laid these on a counter. The things that my staples seemed to have plenty left of were the sandisk memory products (ie compact flash, memory stick, etc), the LCD monitor, and the printers. The other couponed items were gone before they reached the end of the line outside. Don't count on just showing up around 6 and getting what you want, there was a much higher turnout than I expected and several people were left empty handed.

*Edit* I also can't do my easy rebate for the Hard drive yet. When I try to submit it it is telling me that I need to mail it in, even though it says right on the rebate receipt that it qualifies for the easy rebate. I'm hoping that they just haven't got it entered into the system yet.

It is usually sufficient that you have a single proof of owning ANY symantec product. The rebate should be for hte bundle, not each item.

Well, I dropped by my local staples this morning to check out the sales, online was too slow. I have never seen so many asian people crowded into a Staples store. I felt right at home. Some old asian guy beat me out for the dvd drive, media and the pny flash drive. They are so hardcore when it comes to saving 10 bucks. ehhe

I didn't want to say anything, but I encountered the same thing. I'm not in a high Asian population area, but probably 40% of the people there were Asian. A lot of the people that were trying to fight to the front of the checkout line were Asian too....not all of them but a pretty high percentage.

I ended up purchasing the monitor online (will be here Tuesday). Rebate section's not working now it seems, but save your receipt purchase info. They'll honor it I'm sure when things calm down as long as your purchase was today.

actually from just some brief google hunting... it looks like this drive is a rebadged benq. which is a DAMN nice drive.

i certainly plan on picking one of these up. and maybe that hard drive too... would love to stick with seagate as i already have one of their 160gb drives... but that's soooo damn cheap. and these easy rebate things look VERY handy.

staples is definitely my first stop on friday.

Can anyone confirm this is a rebadged BenQ drive??? Managed to pick one up, but didn't want to open it....

Are there any "identifying" marks on the box to determine which drive is inside?
