Back from shopping, hit up the Newark store. Oh man it was crazy, got there at 5:15 and there were at least 50 people in front of me. By the time they opened there must've been 100-150 in line behind me. Fortunately got everything I wanted (router kit, usb drive, photo paper). They need to fix their network, even the registers timed out.

Picked up one of the Proview monitors - got the last one at the Carson CA store. Not much going on there at 7:00 AM when I rolled in, the mad rush must have come and gone.

At any rate, the monitor seems okay. Text looks slightly better than the Hyundai L70S I receintly bought from Newegg, colors are not as vibrant however. Seems like a reasonable monitor for the price.

kwo - I picked up the I/O DVD burner at a Staples in Tennessee and it is a benQ model DW-1620-0C1 mfg in August 2004. I can't find anything on the box to give away what is inside.

It took two hours to place my online order (should have stayed in bed) earlier this morning. The DVD burner was in my cart but after I unsuccessfully tried to stack the $25 coupon, the drive was oos . I was able to submit my order about 5:45 and I headed out to the b&m store to pick up the burner. I got there about 5 minutes after opening and all 6 that the store had were already given away; however, the manager was nice enough to say that they would order it and honor the price . It looks like the site is still having problems as I can't add anything to my cart now.

I still can't get through to the easy rebate center. Looks like they have not updated their database to add the specials of today. I will try tomarrow.

I picked up the Situations High-Back Leather Chair for $49.
So far, it's a VERY comfortabe chair. Of course I don't know how well the padding holds up, but one thing about it that's really great is the arm rests. I can actually use them to rest my elbows when I touch type or use the mouse, which is great relief. I recommend this chair, especially for $50.

I picked up the burner drive today. It is not a BenQ -darn! It is a BTC so I will probably install on my daughter's computer which does not have a DVD drive.

I got online a little after midnight Thursday night and was able to get the I/OMagic DVD burner and the 160GB drive. I also tried to get the 256MB USB flash drive and free remote control but the web site didn't show the correct prices. I left them in my shopping cart and tried again about 8:00 am Friday morning. The prices were corrected but they showed as out-of-stock when I tried to check-out - DAMN! I was able to order one each of the DVD-R and DVD+R TEON 40 disk spindles which should be CMC brand disks. If the I/OMagic DVD burner turns out to be a BTC instead of a Benq it's going right back to Staples! Anyone care to recommend a reliable external enclosure for the DVD burner?

Let's see if we can figure this out:

My drive (unopened) has the following on the side:
7 88069 00897 6 (UPC)
IDVD16DD

Dang, there's really nothing else on there, so this is going to be hard! Hey..another thing, I just noticed this has two sealing stickers, the one underneath was already cut - hmmm....could this have been a returned/checked item??? Hmmm....

Guess I'll have to open and see -

Will they accept an opened DVD drive?

Back when I worked at staples, they would take back opened DVD drives, as long as everything was there.

Anyway, I got in on the $49 chair, the hard drive and the DVD+R's

I feel sorry for the people who stood inline for the Staples deals this BF. Unlike many of you, I had to work on Friday (yeah, sucks) but it was really slow (expected) so I had the chance to go online and take advantage of the Staples deals online (at around 8am Pacific). At that time, I could pretty much get whatever items I wanted on that Earlybird sale but I opted for just 1 DVD burner (I have too many HDs). Got in on that. Told a friend about it, 15 minutes later, he called back saying that they were out of IOMagic drives and are substituting HPs for $40 out the door! So, I called back and ordered an HP drive for $40. So now I have 2 dual layer 16X DVD burners coming. Then the same friend called back and said that they were out of the 256MB USB key...and are substituting a Sandisk Cruzer Mini for $10 w/o rebates! I had to call back and order it. Tried to add another HP drive but by that time all HP drives were gone and the CSR said the window for EarlyBird sale has lapsed so they can no longer substitute or sell the drive at the sale price.

So, while sitting in my comfy chair at work, I got these:

1 IOMagic DVD burner for $40 after $30 rebate.
1 HP burner for $40 with no rebates
1 256MB Sandisk Cruzer Mini for $10 w/o rebates

Then, I found a $30 rebate for the HP drive! So that makes it $10!

WOW! I love Staples. They were getting hammered (both online and on the phones) but they struggled to fulfill all orders (unlike Worstbuy, CrapUSA, and Dell). The three or so CSRs I spoke to on the phone were extremely nice despite all the chaos that was going on at their call center (I'm sure). Staples should be nominated for some kind of best-BlackFriday-store award.

I opened a Staples Business account with them a while back and have been receiving nothing but great service as well as a plethora of incentives (coupons, gift certs, etc.). Needless to say 1-800-3-Staples has become a speed dial on my cellphone.

Also, does anybody know why so many people lined up at Fry's on Friday? I saw their BF ad and it wasn't that great.

They'd get my vote for best BF store award!

As far a rebates staples rulz in my book quick return - no hassles - HOWEVER the $79.99 netgear combo was suppoosed to be online for a $60 ez-rebate which did not work. I am sending it in now w/o UPC as mentioned on the form - the filling out sof the forms sucks though
