my first HD so be gentle...
At the Staples B&M store I got a brochure called "Staples Business Rewards". You sign up and get a card. Sort of like a frequent-flyer program. Each quarter they send you a check based on how much you spend.
250-399: 1%
400-499: 1.5%
500-599: 2.0%
600+: $15 (if you spend $600 then you will get 2.5% back)

You can buy in store, web, or phone and pay your usual way.

It starts to get hotter when you stack it with the 1% you get from eBates. That's 2% on all purchases back, combine that again with coupons and you have a decently hot deal. No need to crush the new poster's initiative.

Edit: Hmmm...it seems to have disappeared. Must have been that bug that a poster mentions below. Anyway, I stand by my post. There is nothing to justify marill's flame, WHATSOEVER.

I consider it hot. I've got a card and I use it for everything that I buy, and when any one I knows goes to Stapels, I give them my card. None of them have a card or care about getting one, so I get the benefits.

My last reward "cehck" was for $35...so imho, this can be a prett hot deal

after reading some more one it...
If you spend $1k in a year you get bumped to "gold" and can get "up to 5%" back!

The way I look at it is: I am going to spend my money there anyway, so I'll take the freebie!

Madcow, I wasn't aware that ebates has a rebate on Staples purchases, and I can't find anything on their website. Am I missing something?

eBates does not pay any cash back for Staples purchases.

BTW - The big disadvantage for most here with Business Rewards is that if you are a "coupon abuser" and use illegally obtained coupon codes from deals sites or use illegally obtained Staples printable coupons in their B&Ms mutiple times, Staples can easily track your buying activity. Right now about all they do is ban you from their Staples.com order system if they catch you engaging in such activity, but there nothing to stop them from persuing legal action later on since they have your entire order activity along with the coupon codes that you used and your CC information that discloses your name and address. :Q

madcowdisease is mistaken.. either he's thinking of
their past affilitation program or the former ebates bug that
if you searched for amazon or staples, it would show a generic
banner with %1 back even though neither is listen for rebates.

Nonetheless, the business rewards program is a hot deal.
If you can spend I believe $1000 in a year (think using Mail in rebates)
you get upgraded to their gold rewards program and you get free shipping
with ANY order as well as double the % back.

i've had problems w/the staples rewards plan..namely, they never credit me w/the stuff i buy. i bought over $350 this quarter, but they keep saying my acct is 0. i had to tell them the amount i bought and they said they'll credit me. but when i called again the next week, my acct still said 0. i gave up.

oh, $250 was by phone, and i $100 was online. i put my rewards # in the field in the online order. go figure

Business Rewards not only gives you a percentage back, but also send coupons through the mail. Even though you can print coupons online, sometimes its just easier to use the official coupons . I just got a coupon for a $10 off $10 coupon, only it is a one time use...

I've placed many many orders with staples.com using a staples charge card and business rewards...Used a coupon for just about everyone one of them. I have thought about being a "coupon abuser" but in truth I spend so much money there I would bet they are happy for my business.

djlevyii,
How did you get $35 rewards? The maximum reward for gold member is only $30 each quarter. I was not a gold member last quarter and spent over $1,000 for that quarter and they only sent me $15 and told me the reward does not get carried over.

There were weeks where staples offered double dividends...I know that's how my check was larger than usual.
