Yes, it sucks. But the reason for this from what I was told is because they're getting so many empty carts for so many different printer manufacturers that they can't possibly refill and sell them all, and that they now have to limit what they can accept.

When I heard this, I got really pissed. :| They don't care that they're polluting the environment with all those carts they're throwing out. They just care about the $$$ they make from refilling and selling their own brand of carts.
[/rant]

They are cartridges actually developed and made via staples. The SIMPLY brand for example, is actually the staples brand cartridge that has yet to be certified with the name staples on it.

So before you go around spreading rumors, please get the facts straight.

Staples has an R & D, Q/C and manufaturing division to produce ink carts ?

Doesn't seem that way according to this article:

"InkCycle also refurbishes inkjet and laser toner cartridges for Cannon, Dell and Lexmark. Ashley declined to discuss InkCycle's relationship with those companies or the names of his ink suppliers.

A representative for Staples said the company has more than 100 in-house brands of ink toner or fax-compatible cartridges but was not sure how many of those products came from InkCycle. Last month, Staples announced a deal to offer remanufactured ink cartridges compatible with Dell products under Staples' "simply" brand."

Yes it's true. I know it's true since I have instructed on many occasions that my IA needs to send out the HP cartridges back to HP since we have like 10,000 of them in the warehouse.

I should have been clearer, Starting 9/18 the coupons will be purple and given only for HP, Dell and Lexmark. They will only be good towards ink purchases

That really stinks that the coupons will be limited to (overpriced) ink at Staples. Oh well, this program did me good. For some reason a couple of years ago I started saving empty ink cartridges. Cleaning up the basement this spring I found that box-with over 30 empties in it.

Maybe if you call Staples and talk to a CSR you can resolve that. I've seen the posting in two different Staples (central CT) and each was clearly marked that the new policy was effective September 17th.

I just got back from Staples with a couple of purple ink coupons, and nowhere on there says it must be on ink. It says $3 towards product purchases.

Well, as Homer said they can kiss my hairy yellow butt. I've got a bunch of $3 coupons from Canon carts I took in previously, do you think they they will still honor them?

They would have to it clearly says "Valid for 3 months from date of issue"

When they gave you the coupon in exchange for the ink cart, they entered into contract with you, imagine the class action suit they would have on their hands

Can anyone answer this question? So I traded in a bunch of carts and got some coupons, but none of them were dated. So does that mean I can't use them in the store because they cannot verify the date it was issued? Can I just use them online (they don't check the date somehow online, right)?

Office Depot and Office Max have even stricter policies. Office Depot does not accept "Ink Tank and HP products" and apparently because my Canon cartidge is labelled as an "ink tank" they refused to take it, even though the wording and capitialization made it seem like Ink Tank is actually a brand name company.

OM also refused to take anything but Dell HP and Lexmark.

They should still take the cartridge whether it's signed and dated or not. At least, that's the policy my store has, just take the damn thing. It shouldn't be available for ink only, I'll check later on this week.

I turned in 21 cartridges a while back. I should have put them on ebay. Although I did get 21 $3 coupons, they were not stackable.

For whatever reason for years I saved my Canon "Ink Tanks" (No print head). I cashed them all in during the first of the program and thus, used 15 just on one purchase.

What you find with Staples is that they fail to plan and most of their special promotions change and get more restrictive as people follow the rules they setup and take advantage.

Remember when Staples coupon were like dandelions? Now they are like hen's teeth or sex for a married man, few and far, far between..
