Well I ordered one (20gig + paper clips) and I think $50 after MIR is a killer deal, I remember paying $249 for an 8.4gig a few years ago.
this HD is just like one I bought around christmas thats still in the box, maybe I can do the raid thing on my new A7V133 with these two if the're the same!

Both the Maxtor HD & the ATA-100 Controller Card have the $50 rebate sticker on the side.

Now if Staples will just honor the $20 price drop on Sunday I'll be happy

lizard boy - What was your purchase total? Did you use a coupon? I paid 100 - 30 coupon = 70 for the hard drive. If there is a $20 price drop it'd be 70 - 30 coupon, but that would be invalid since it's a 30 off 100 coupon. In other words, a price adjustment would not work.

That's why there were users asking about the $25 off $75. They may come out with one soon, but I would guess you probably won't see one before this sale ends. If you really want this drive the sale on Sunday/Monday won't really be a better deal than you can get now online.

Wouldn't it just be better to wait till Sunday, get the drive for $80, order another $20 of stuff and then use the coupon? That way you'll be paying $50 for the drive and $20 of stuff. This is of course assuming that it's still in stock on Sunday.

HKSturboKID: I bought the 40Gig and the controller deal back in Oct. (I think!) and I had the same trouble as you did. I just checked my status and here are the details:

Rebate paperwork was received on: 2000-10-24
Check was printed on: 2001-02-20

4 months to get that sucker! That is ~16 weeks. That is just plain wrong. Oh well, I should finally have it by next week.

So I am sure you will get yours soon.

If you ordered online, I am pretty sure the Staples.com won't Price match their B&amp;M Staples. Staples price matching is done against online stores, not B&amp;M stores. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am. Has anyone PM Staples.com with their B&amp;M store or another B&amp;M store?

Yes, I just checked the status of my ata100 rebate, and it says it was invalid on the rebateHQ website. I will be recieving the reason postcard soon. But, I bet that it's because they are classifying the rebate as the original 40GB HD + ATA100 card. Since I bought the 30GB drive, I bet that's the problem. Also, that's probably why smigs rebate worked for him, since he bought a 40GB drive. I'm hoping this isn't going to turn into a big problem for everyone doing this rebate.:disgust:

just got off the phone with staples: they will pricematch with staples B&amp;M...the CSR wasn't sure so she asked her supervisor who said no problem...i'm going to call back sunday when the paper comes out to get the adjustment

ok i am paranoid about the maxtor rebate now...please take a look at the maxtor UPC label

i am assuming maxtor wants the part below 'clip here' since it says proof of purchase...but that part does not have the traditional UPC...what part did you guys send in (especially anyone whose rebate has been approved)

I purchased the Maxtor 40G (was 45G in box)using pricematch &amp; coupon for $99+tax and picked up the ATA100 at a store with $10off coupon. My $50 rebate arrived just this past week from Staples. I am very careful with my rebate forms &amp; clearly mark when I sent them and that I copied the forms on the paperwork I send in. I've gotten every rebate so far although I'll never go for another DigitalResearch one again (it was real trouble to get them to send it out). Staples has been pretty good on the rebates, just a bit slow. Of course, Kingston's rebate house is much slower - my December 2000 isn't even supposed to be printed until Mid-March 2001.

I just submitted my info for the $20 rebate on the Maxtor 20GB and am thrilled to hear about the price drop. You can bet I'll be calling up for a price adjustment in a couple days. Woo.

The only hangup would be the coupon... and the $70 threshold. If the ATA100 card hadn't have been out of stock...

Also, regarding the rebate(s). I just recently went through minor hell getting someone at the rebate center to admit they may have lost the original bar code I sent. Anyways, a couple reminders:

1. Make copies of everything: Receipt(s), UPC(s), Packing slip(s), etc.
2. When you can, submit the copy. (Staples doesn't officially require an original)
3. Make copies of everything.

Once you get a tracking number id for your rebate, you could also fax in copies to 972-745-8803. That's the fax line for the Coppell, TX office. I'm told that the best time to fax something is before 9am CST or after 5pm CST.

I agree 100%! Definately, abosuletly, positively always make copies of everything when dealing with a Staples rebate! (And, of course, it's a good idea with all other rebates, but especially with Staples.)

The company Staples uses, rebateshq.com, (which also happens to be the company Maxtor uses) is either (a) just a bunch of moronic idiots with no common sense or intelligence whatsoever or (b) just out to make it as difficult as possible for one to get his or her rightful rebate...

And I don't say this without reason... Since I found this forum a few months ago (aside from racking up debt to save money , I've sent in somewhere around 15-20 Staples rebates...taking care with each one to meet every requirement to the last detail. I'd say over 50% of them--maybe even 75%--I get a card with &quot;Missing UPC&quot;, &quot;Invalid UPC&quot;, etc. instead of a check! (Well, I usually track the rebates online and find most of the problems before the card actually gets here...)

Anyway, heed Hossenfeffer's advice and make copies! (And you may want to invest in a fax machine if you don't have access to one!

If you didn't pick up a cheap fax, you could use a faxmodem or sign up for something like efax. It's been what I've been using for this last rebate and it's fairly agreeable. Several other fax products out there that basically let you email to a fax machine. Definately good when dealing with things like this. It's often so hard to get someone to take a step past the arbitrary policy.

On the last rebate ($100 for a Kodak Printer/Camera), I tried on 3 occasions to fax things in. I'd call everyday and be told that I needed to wait 72 hours. I'd fax it again and asked if anyone there could even tell me if the fax got through legibly. The thing I learned is that this rebate call center reportedly -shares- an incoming line with the office in Coppell, TX (They're in Waco). They told me to keep calling back to try and reach someone in Coppell (The fax machine is there). I called like 20 times that day, reciting the csr's scripts before they could after a while. &quot;Thank you for calling the Rebate Center, we appreciate your call&quot; became &quot;Thanks for letting me call the Rebate Center, I'm sure you appreciate my call&quot;. They got a kick outta that.
