Staples Free CDR (Prime Peripherals) deal - last weekend **RIDICULOUS ***

I am not sure how many bought this from Staples this last weekend. It was for $8 and you get a $8 MIR from Prime Pripherals.

As I try sending my rebate I see that the UPC sticker is stuck to the CD case in such a way that it wont come off unless you tear it. I have tried several ways - including using my girlfriends finger nails ! but nothing works. The only way now is to break the case and send the UPC with the case stuck at the back.

I spoke with few other people on another board and somebody mentioned that this might be a strategy by Prime Peripheral... use the best glue possible, and make sure the customer gets frustrated trying to peel the UPC sticker off and gives up... sounds ridiculous but quite plausible... so prime peripherals ends up having a higher percentage of people not sending the rebate !! Howz that for an innovative sales promotion!!??

Try holding it over boiling water and let the steam melt the glue...kinda like how you open a letter addressed to your spouse with the smell of cologne/perfume and no return address

I just got mine today....
will they just accept if I cut the UPC still stuck on the box using a cutter?

Well, whenever I have to peel a label off, I usually grab a hair dryer and set it to low heat. Then I blow the hot air onto the label until the glue gets warm enough that it no longer sticks so hard to the package.
It's never failed for me.

O'course cutting the box is the easiest way... but you see here we are talking about a plastic CD case that has to be cut... actually chiselled and broken

hesdeadjim.......I've used the same technique to remove bumper stickers from cars. High heat softens the glue enough to allow removal of the sticker without damaging the paint.

The hair dryer trick has always worked for me. It also comes in handy for removing price tags from gifts (and stuff I want to resell) and for removing tape from shipping boxes which I want to reuse (without them looking all torn-up from ripping off the tape).

I find that the high setting works best, but watch you don't burn your fingers.

One word: AMMONIA! Dab a little on and it will dissolve the glue, also used to clean auto windows after tint is peeled off.

One word.. Goo-B-Gone.. They sell it at fabric stores. Best thing I've found to remove stickers. You just coat it with it and wait an hour and it'll come off with no trouble.

wouldn't that chemical stuff damage the UPC symbol though? You need to get it off and keep it readable, so that you can get the rebate

I am pretty sure at least half the people who bought those ended up tearing the upc in half trying to peel it, and then saying "forget it, it is only $8 anyways... oh well".

Yup, hair dryer/heat gun is the easy answer. I can't believe it took me so long to figure this out. Don't get it too hot or it's get all black n' smelly.

ajaju,

I'm just curious if you tried your girlfriend's nails while the girlfriend was still attached to them, or did you have them removed especially for this purpose? Lol, that was a good laugh in the morning.

To remove almost all stickers pre-moistened variety stickers,
you can use naptha, which is readily available as lighter fluid.
Spray some on the sticker, let it soak in, start to peel. If it
doesn't come off without effort, just soak it again.

Almost all sticker adhesives will come off with naptha AND naptha
will not harm most plastics and other surfaces. This makes it a
much better solvent than, say, acetone, toluene, etc. The latter
types of solvents will also remove sticker adhesives, but they
will frequently ruin plastic surfaces AND a lot of inks are soluble
in these solvents, as well. Some cheap inks are also very soluble
in naptha, but most are not...

I noticed that "girlfriends finger nails" [sic] were tried, without success.
As most of the other intelligent responses included items which one may not have at hand, I'd like to suggest one other - finger nail polish remover (this is often found in residences which are habitated by girlfriend's finger nails [and hopefully THE GIRLFRIEND !!]).

I got two cases of 200 spindle box of the same brand from OM last weekend, $45 MIR each, and I noticed this company printed two UPC bars on each case, I was terribly sleepy when I cut them off and didn't realize that I can make a little money of it.
So if you are pissed by PP and you just happened bought two case of this CDR, cut two UPC from one case and send each of them with the COPY of your receipts, and return one case using the original receipt. I think that's the pay off of your painess.

Hair dryer always works great for me but on thin plastics it sometimes becomes too hot and deforms the plastic. I have used googone and it has blurred the printed material so bad I couldn't read it. If you want to use a chemical the best I have tried is WD-40, spray it on and wait about 5 minutes and it will slide right off and not ruin it but your UPC will smell like WD-40 for quite awhile
