Was at my local staples earlier and they had a table out with 250gig hard drives for 115.00 on clearance.

They have 160gb hard drives also on clearance but I dont recall the price.

Personally $0.46/gb isn't even considered cheap nowadays. Staples used to have really good deals, but for a long while now they haven't had hardly any hot deals at all. Everything seems priced at MSRP or slightly below.

My $2 anyway.

Got 6 Maxtor 160GB 7200rpm, ATA/133, 8 mb for $50.88 @ Staples (Chicago, IL) area. In-store only clearance, not available to order on-line or phone. This was hugely YMMV.

960GB for $50.88. 5.3 cents/GB.

Damn. I would bet some made it to e-bay.

Either way
Its something to keep in the back of your minds should there be a manufacturers coupon.

Im going back tommorow just to make sure they were ATA. Someone sent me an e-mail asking if there were SATA. If so I plan on picking one up. Will post tommorow if its something worth while. If anyone else goes please post as well.

I thought you meant $50.88 each at first...

Nice going, were the drives already marked at this price?

No advertisement at all.

Went to the Tinley Park, IL at 8:50 am on a hunch. I just asked the sales associate "Chris" if they had item# 504516 remaining. Store inventory said quantity of 2 for $29.50 each but could not find it in the locked room, they checked twice. Asked them to check other Chicago area stores and showed 9 at store #1611 (Wabash & Washington). Called and physically confirmed that they had 9 in stock. Told them I want 3 transfered or buy it (still $29.50 in my mind). Surprised when he entered the item# on the register and says "that will be $10.24 each". Associate thought I only wanted 1. Wow, thats a killer price I say in my mind. I ask if can I have all 9, greedily smiling. He calls back the store and manager says max of 3. Rings up 3 for total of $30.71. Associate says I'll get the drives by Tuesday. I walk out dazzed.

Call the 1-800 *** Staples and see if I can order thru the phone and get drives from store $1611. No go, I'll have to pay regular price of $109.98, tax and shipping. Cannot match in-store clearance price. Call the Wabash store and ask for 3 more to be put on hold. Gave my name and made sure I got the associates name.

Drive 26 miles to Chicago and find a empty parking spot 50 feet from the store. See my 3 HDD that I paid for in the Tinley Park store in the UPS counter. I look for an associate and tell her I'm here for a item that is on hold. Talk to manager and ask if I can just get the drives a ordered earlier and show my receipt. No problem, saves shipping on their part. Associate brings the 3 drives on hold. Rings up to $20.17 after $10 off $10 or more coupon.

Sorry for bragging and being greedy, but I rarely get into this kind of deal, ever....

All out at my store this morning. That will teach me.

According to the guy there are 120's are also on clearance.

120's, 160's, and 250's.

The 160's seem like the hot find.

Buddy of mine in Jersey got the last 2 of a 160gb drive. Not sure which one he got it from but he said it was under $10.00 each.

Blargg! No one has it in stock around me All the staples kept directing me to other staples which kept trying to tell me someone else had it. Very confusing, very frustrating.

This looks tempting, but there are only two staples around the Edison Area in NJ.
The one in So Pleainfield will have been all taken by the employees there, or the manager there would act smart and refuse the deal.

I wish there are some new Staples opened here.

Another Buddy of mine got 1 in Illinois.

Jersey seems to be wiped out from a couple friends. The store clerks buy them up. Same happens at BestBuy in NJ.

That is nuts! I was at that store last week picking up some padded envelopes. I wish I knew they had such HDD clearance sales!

the guy told me that the last one in Goleta, CA was on hold for another customer and if that person fell through, then the assistant/associate manager was going to buy it. Does anyone know how to call these people out and objectively get a drive if it, indeed, is in the building? This is just for future reference when something as hot as this comes up once again. TIA.
