Why does Staples.com think anyone will care to use the new pricematch policy? Why go through the hassle of a PM if you can already get the item for the same price elsewhere? Now, the only reason for a PM is the chance that you can get the item faster.

Duh! Because you can PM with Staples and tack on a $30 off $150 or $40 off $200 coupon and get a humdinger of a deal!

Did anyone here actually READ the link he was referring to? According to Staples new policy you CANNOT Pricematch and then add a coupon to the deal. The coupon is now taken into account in the pricematch so if Staples offers something for $150 and someone else offers it for $130 but you try to use a $30 off $150 coupon then there will be no pricematch because Staples price is $120 after coupon.

That's fine with me. There are other stores more worthy of my business. Only reason I shopped at Staples before was b/c of their PM and coupon policy. Now that they've taken it away I have no need to buy their overpriced products. Besides it's been a while since I last did a PM & coupon deal, most of the time I end up missing out anyways because they're out of stock of all the good stuff.

That was my point. Without PM + coupon, who would ever use a Staples PM?

this just made staples unattractive in my eyes. I never used their PM + coupon policy that much (actually only once) so this will drive me away to other companies for sure. Oh well!

GermyBoy,

This has always been their policy before.

Apparently you have never done a pricematch with them. That's the only reason we use them to pricematch is the additional coupon discount after the pricematch.

Grrrr...

Staples has several times canceled my orders without notice. No phone call, no email, no snail-mail, nothing. This has really put me in a bind when it was something that I needed for my business (particularly when Staples has already given me a delivery date). I haven't forgotten these incidents, and I know that this has also happened to many, many Anandtechers. If I can get something for the same price elsewhere, I will NOT buy at Staples.

There latest coupon is not even valid for tech products. HAha. With their super high prices and no way around them anymore, we will be seeing them on that farkedcompany web site pretty soon.

I get the impression that some people feel entitled to PM/coupons. But we all know that companies go bankrupt giving such deals. So instead of bashing stores, imagine yourself in their shoes.

So, this is all the more reason to use your AMEX at Staples. You can buy at $159 for example and send in your $30 rebate bringing it to $129.99, then pricematch with American Express for $129.99 and you get $30 back on your CC. So, in the end, you have to same deal as before...just pricematching through your terrific credit card company instead of those bit**es over at Staples.

peas.

IHYLN, maybe I read that wrong, but if you only ever PM'ed+coupon once, why would the change drive you away from the other Staples deals without PM?

I reported this several days ago in updating a previous HOT deal to WARM.

Actually, that's exactly Staples' point. They don't want our ("hot deal", PM + coupon + rebate) business. Their goal for PriceMatching is to make their regular business customer always have a reason to do business with them. "Store X has this for $Y, which is cheaper than you" the business customer can say, and Staples will be glad to match.

Frankly, I thought it was idiocy for Staples to PM someone's deep discount and then let me use a special coupon. (like in the link I gave right up there). But, heck, if they want to give me things for so much less, I don't mind.
