I'm not to surprised. To many people would come to these boards and brag about how they got Staples to PM to store xyz-and when you went to their website it was an OEM product...so I kept calling Staples CSR until a got a "nice" lady said that she would PM it. That is cheating/stealing. And then people would complain that Staples now wants to add the other company's shipping charges, why shouldn't they? If the other company was cheaper, and shipping was cheaper, then I guess you should buy from them. Of course they weren't also handing out dollar off coupons. The policies were being abused by a select few and now the rest of us have to pay(kind of like shoplifting).

i am an employe of staples and here been for more than a year... i was just in work today and if was indeed a policy change i would have heard about it or read the memo... as of today THERE IS NO MEMO... the policy has not changed... we have an internal system and there was no such statement made..

Yeah, and as soon as our Staples workers learn to speak and write in the English language, we will be able to translate what the heck they are saying! Don't start a flame war here; I just have no idea what the heck he/she just said.

For those employees that have access to the staples@work, is it located there?....I haven't checked my store e-mail in awhile, but my GM hasnt said anything to me. Plus all PMs go through me anyways, and it has not come up.

hey freebee i have access to staples@work .... and i would have heard about it if it was on there today.. i was talking to my GM about several different things and he would have said something if this was the case.. this change in policy might be regional i dont know though.. but i am fairly sure that it was not on the staples@work email system on the memo part..

Agree we do not need a flame war. Let's not be too harsh. What he/she said was I believe:

Bubbadu, i'm also a Staples employee and was at work today. Our manger received word of this change from the distract level. We placed appropriate notes on our cashregisters for the cashiers and flyers for our customers were scheduled to be made by the end of the day

Thanks for the "translation". I wasn't trying to be harsh. However, that was a horrible rendition of what you so eloquently "translated". Thank you!

Until they change their published public policy, there's no need for a hissy fit. Even if some regional manager decided differently, he/she could not go against company policy; all you'd need is their policy printed off their site in your back pocket.

So far, no one has said what "region" this is allegedly in. Once (IF!) they change it, then we can waste all the moaning bandwidth we wish to.

evangelist - you can still PM @ OffalMax. the policy change is only for PMing against websites.

I just finished PM'ing a 17" monitor at Staples tonight w/ Amazon, they didn't worry about checking in stock status, they cared less about Amazon's shipping charger. Did a 110% pricematch too. Even took a 20 off 100 coupon. With the rebate, I'll end up paying about $36 including tax. As long as their willing to do this, I'll be more than happy to let them. All I do is show up at the cashiers line w/ merchandise in my cart and web pages and coupons in hand. To equate this to shoplifting is idiotic. They determine how much I pay, not me.

Yes, they determine how much you pay, their policies determine how much you pay. If you bring in webpages and wait to get someone who won't include shipping during the pricematch and also won't notice that your item is OEM, then it is considered stealing. Comparing it to shoplifting is not very idiotic IMO.

In your situation, they aren't including shipping. If you were honest, you would point it out. When people give me change after purchasing an item and give too much, I give it back.

Well, lets see, I just went to the cashier that was open. Very sneaky of me I quess. I don't believe the Amazon item was "OEM" so I have no idea what your point is there. So I quess it's not shoplifting.

Since it was the Operations Manager that checked me out, I figured he'd apply the Staples policy in the manner he thought best. I'd imagine they have some discression. If not, then I quess Staples needs to hire better managers. And by the way, I always return the extra change when the cashier gives me back too much. Since I use a credit card at Staples, this isn't a concern.

Hows the view from the high horse?

Where did we go wrong here? Give it a break guys. I think Letsplaybridge covered his bases pretty well here. What would you expect him to do; go to work for the store and make sure they didn't make any accounting errors? Maybe Enron should have hired him.

Staples in my town only PM's local compitition. It's always been that way:| Heck, we don't have BestBuy, Office Depot, Comp USA, CCity...so it's always been crappy for us locals.
