I'm a newby with DVD burners. Can anyone tell me if one format is better than the other? My Lite-ON burner handles both formats so I'm wondering if it makes any difference the DVD +R versus the DVD -R. Advise would be appreciated.

They both have pretty equal compatibility. It comes down to what your player is happy with. Some like -R and some like +R but most will play both. I'm partial to the +Rs myself, but I've used both without any problems. Checkout dvdrhelp.com for more info on each format.

I picked up 2 boxes of the -R. One is already open, maybe I'll go exchange the unopened one for a +R box. Then I can flash my 411S to 8x
