I'll be sitting tight in my Aurora LX. I have too many other bills to spend money on other ships. Also, I'm hoping just like in privateer half the fun will be "earning" the better ships in the game.

Yep, just sticking with the standard Aurora here. Honestly a lot of the upgraded ships were too specialized to interest me. I suppose if you're putting together a highly structured clan with it's own carrier/fleet you could start assigning people to roles, but that would be pretty inefficient given that no one's actually touched the game yet.

I just hope they keep to their word and the Aurora is actually viable for its class. It's a fine line between "jack of all trades, master of none" and "sucks at everything" in balancing.

I also agree that half of the fun is getting the upgraded ships on your own, assuming that's practically possible (unlike some FTP games where it's theoretically possible but would require hundreds of hours). Same reason I never purchased any BF3 unlock packs.

I got the package with the Hornet. Extra hard points were a sell. But the aurora looks just fine too.

Man, I am so pumped for this game. Feels like pre-swg jitters in fact.

Ended up with a Freelancer as my personal exploration ship and split a Starfarer with my two brothers in hopes of funding our future ship/equipment purchases. I can't imagine spending thousands on ships like some of the people on the SC forums have.

It has a single player campaign that is optional. Then the rest of the game is open world/space multi-player. Its not a true mmo as you will not have skill points or levels but it will support many players in the same server. You can also host your own private servers and changes the rules of the galaxy as you see fit. There is also no monthly fee though there will be an "item shop" model you can choose to use or not.

it's like wing commander (squadron 42) and privateer (star citizen) combined into one game.

Chris said there would be a full single player campaign, after which you can "muster out" and play the privateer portion if you like. There you go.

Sure they're talking more about the privateer portion; It's more interesting to talk about and what the majority of backers backed for. Right now the only real competitor is EVE, hopefully this will be EVE for people with lives.

Been a while since anyone posted and the Hangar module will be here Saturday so I thought I'd give this a bump.

I don't know who the PC Gaming Mod is or I would have asked but if the following is not allowed please feel free to remove it from my post, last thing I want to do is get the thread locked.

I have a original backer status so if anyone is looking to pick up a package(including the Pirate Pack) or add-on ships with Life Time Insurance at cost let me know. Some of the Original Backer packages are cheaper than the New Backer and Veteran Backer prices. The add-on ship prices are the same.


General PSA: Also note you still need to pledge something on your account to receive stretch goal benefits. If you were/are gifted a package after July 6th 2013 and you have not bought anything directly through your account(I.E if your pledge total is $0.00 on your billing page) then the system sees you as a non-backer. The cheapest way to remedy this is to buy a $5 skin. The same applies if you buy a package through someone so take that $5 skin into account. I do not believe this is retro-active for past stretch goals, you can only earn the ones you were labeled as a backer for when the goal was met.



PS - If a mod does see this can we get the title changed to: "Star Citizen - Chris Robert`s new space sim (the Wing Commander guy)"?

I really want this to succeed, but I cannot help but think Daikatona... I will not be surprised if this thing doesn't end up nearly as cool as it sounds. But, I am hopeful. It is almost like giving someone the noble peace prize award for good intentions... Luckily that never happened.

It sucks that they showed both the 300i and the Freelancer, which would likely be the two ships I'm most likely to buy.

Downloaded/installed with no problems but I'm getting the common "Connection Timed Out" response after launching the game. I'll try again later today. Really looking forward to checking out my hangar.
