I heard that the Retaliator was kinda weak and disappointing from some people... is this true? That's my premier ship and it would make me sad face

As others have said, I would in no way worry about its current state. Right now the shields are very weak and the turrets need a lot of work to be effective. Same goes for the Connie.

I would expect both to get looked at more closely once the release has been stabilized. The main purpose of this release for those ships was just to get them out there so multi-crew mechanics could be worked on.

That's one reason I never melt ships. You buy them based on the role - then they get built / rebuilt / balanced passed again and again. What we end up with at this time next year will be vastly different than what we have now.

I'm just stoked for the Aquila rework based on what I've seen from the Andromeda. It will probably be the last one to get finished though, since all we have is concept modeling for the rover and the Phoenix owners have been raising too much hell to be ignored.

I disagree. I bet it's next. It would take the least amount of work compared to a Taurus or Phoenix variant. All they have to do is design some flashy sensors, extended fuel tanks (in the cargo ceiling), and a rounded cockpit. The Taurus requires interior and exterior rework due to the hull changing for the longer cargo bay. The Phoenix will be a lot of work no matter what.

If I was in charge I would take the low hanging fruit and push the Aquila next. It doesn't need a rover to be in game. It's been hangar ready for quite a while already with no rover.

I still haven't had time to download the PTU and won't for another week. I heard that the Retaliator was kinda weak and disappointing from some people... is this true? That's my premier ship and it would make me sad face

As was mentioned, the PTU is closed. Now you just need to update your normal live version.

The issues with the Retaliator right now are that its shields are weaker than expected (will be fixed) and the pilot only has missiles available to him. Additional weaponry requires turret operators, and the turret mechanics leave a lot to be desired thus far (will be fixed). Nothing will stay the same as it is now. There's a long way to go, but it's still fun as is. I love flying my Retaliator just by myself through the asteroid field. It's beautiful.

Are you Star Citizen Wide9?

If yes, you should have received 5,000 UEC for using my referral code.

I received a Badger repeater gun for your referral.

If Wide9 is you....thanks for using my code!

Ok good. I got the 5,000 as well.

Here's the thing, now you owe me.

I hope you're right. I'm also hoping that the Aquila gets a living area more suitable for a long range explorer. As cool as the Andromeda interior is, about the only thing it has in the living quarters is a long bench.

Based on the last studio update, it sounds like we'll see the Freelancer, Vanguard, Sabre, and Reliant before we see anymore cool Connie stuff though.

In terms of ship balancing the larger ships like Connie and Retaliator, I don't think any armor is being factored in yet on any ship. So it is essentially shields and then structure (if you want an EVE reference).

A more custom living quarter would be pretty nice, but not really necessary for the design. I certainly would like it if they did.

Oh, we should certainly see those popping up, but there's so many different ship artists that it doesn't mean the Connie variants aren't being worked on as well.

Is it time for someone to make a AT Ballers logo? I can assign it to the Org now we did have a suggestion earlier I'd like to have a consensus.

Since all of us here make between 7-8 figures yearly a giant chrome dollar symbol needs to be superimposed somehow.

On a more serious note, has there been any talk of game mechanics for an organization collectively working together to get a capital type ship (Idris, Javelin, etc.) for org use?

Just doodled a concept in paint.

Needs to be cleaned up/stylized, a starfield background, and run through some filters to bling it up.

I think its too early we don't even know what they'll be like to support. We should have that discussion in a few months.

That's pretty exciting....I just hope they use a lot of different algorithms to create varied environments. If each habitable planet had just a single landing zone though, it would take an enormous amount of time to create. Something like this really gives the game room for enormous expansion and longevity, though.

Also - did anyone else notice the ship screens posted today?

They really took the Freelancer to the next level. I'm pretty excited about this ship now. Maybe it's just the perspective, but it looks significantly bigger to me now based on the pics:

I personally love the metallic "Aerostream" look as well.

Also, the Starfarer looks ridiculously awesome.

I'm still on the fence with the Vanguard, though. I liked the concept art better than the current model in this pic, but I still think it looks killer.

Yes....and you forgot to mention the Freelancer is flyable with 2.1 (which is being finalized and might be out by year-end).

I love the look of the "new" Freelancer except for one thing. They made the wings bigger. Bleh.

But fact is, those MISC ships are sharp looking. Gets me excited about the Reliant (and I think it's an absolute crime the Sabre will be hangar ready before the Reliant.....ok I'm done bitching).

People going nuts over this: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/15124-From-Pupil-To-Planet

I guess I'm not technically knowledgeable enough to know that I should be impressed. To me the best part of the video was finally seeing a character in the game who isn't a white dude. Nice to finally get some diversity in the 'verse.

Its one of the pieces of the puzzle that are needed to create the game that some people have been saying can't be done. If it is all true in that it was rendered real-time in engine, then it has been done and is ready to integrated into the engine. The procedural generation tech was one of the stretch goals (well technically, the goal I believe was to simply look into procedural generation technology and what it might be able to accomplish for Star Citizen).

There are relatively few pieces still needed in order for the bulk of the development work to go from making the engine capable of handling Star Citizen to simply building levels, items, and effects. Obviously some of these things will continue to be tweaked and updated, but the bulk of the technology needed for Star Citizen has now just been demonstrated (the one thing we had yet to see was the engine being capable of moving from a planet surface up and through to the space around the planet, properly handling moving away and through the planet atmosphere/clouds and properly scaling/rendering appropriate level of detail views of the planet and while not turning into a complete slide-show of frame-rate when dealing with doing such a thing).

Wow. Blender has changed a lot since I last used it:

(With and without stars behind camera, and a 2D Sketchup version)

I watched the holiday live stream replay last night and noticed that they have put the $30 starter packages on sale again (5,000 of which only 1,400 are left as I type this).

According to CIG, this is the last time both Star Citizen and Squadron 42 will be bundled together in one starter package. So if you're one the fence about this whole deal, I'd say now is your last chance at a really good deal (two AAA games for $30).

Sounds like ship prices in general are going to go up next year. And I still expect ship sales to end completely (with exceptions) once SQ42 pre-sales are a viable source of funding.

It was rendered in real time. Just to prove it, CR had Sean run a landing sequence in editor *twice* to show off the tech.

Also note, that was NOT what a landing area would look like in terms of blending into the procedural planet; it was literally a rip of the Nyxx landing zone placed on this planet(oid?).

Sean did note that they were beginning to implement atmospherics/flight physics for it as well

Thanks Fallen Kell for the explanation. The second video (landing on the planet) and subsequent discussion left me a lot more excited.

It's a huge leap forward for the open ended aspect of the game. We're somewhat limited on systems, but if those systems have planetoids that you can land on anywhere for various activities (just for the hell of it, exploring in a rover, missions oriented) then they gain an entire new dimension in size.

I hope they do better than FD did with ED. While their planetary tech is pretty impressive, it's like the rest of ED and is a mile wide but inch deep. After driving around for 10 minutes, I was bored yet again. It needs serious content.

Thanks for the heads up. I picked one up and will be gifting it out. Can't beat the price. Less than 1000 left.

First post was over 3 years ago. Can we expect the release in like 2018 now ?

I don't see why. 2017 seems very likely at this point. As Fallen Kell mentioned, most of the core tech is complete now. The only big thing left to look at to me is jump points. The rest is just ironing out gameplay mechanics and pumping out content (systems, landing zones, and missions).

Shameless post for my referral key, for any ATers considering jumping on the $30 bundle bandwagon before it runs out (likely later today).

STAR-S2KL-ZNPP

Looking forward to release and planet(oid) landings!
