I have a hope and a feeling that there will be another special event between now and November, possibly releasing other variants of ships or some of the special limited ones. At a minimum I expect there to be an event on the first anniversary which will be in mid-late October (not sure the exact date, but I know my first contribution was on October 24th 2012, so at least that day or a few before it). I am holding out hopes to see the return of some like the M50, Idris (probably not), Vanduul (probably not), Military variant of the Hornet (probably not given the uproar of initial backers who thought that was what they were getting), Retalitator (hopefully to combat the people with Idris's), and/or possibly the Caterpillar.

Hmmm maybe I'll hold off then and see if anything else becomes available. Since LTI doesn't run out until November I have some time.

Just curious, any reason you guys are buying so much stuff now? Just don't want to work for it in the game? I mean its 2014-2015 release so its going to be awhile before we see anything

I'm with you headcase, I've spent $40 on the kickstarter I may up it a bit more but most likely won't. $275 for a space ship in a game is far too decadent for me.

Because we want to be sure this game is funded enough to actually be made. WE need a good space sim since it has been so long without a decent one.

I'm new to space sims, meaning I never played one but really got interested once I saw EVE: Odyssey trailer.
X: Rebirth looks similar and I assume Star Citizen is a long ways off...so which would better?
EVE looks amazing graphically and I assume is probably larger and more in depth but X rebirth looks very similar minus some jaw dropping scenes that EVE has. Just not too sure about monthly payments for a game I may not get to play everyday.

You need a different thread for that question, I will say they aren't even the same genre. They only share the same backdrop.

So the more I follow this thread the more I'm becoming interested in this game. Thinking of contributing so I can get into it. Working on a buddy or two but if I can convince them is it worth it to go for something like the Constellation? Seems like it'd be fun to gun (or have someone gun) and/or use your ship as a jump point for a fighter, etc.

huh...i definitely thought I was buying a mil-spec hornet. oh well.

Yeah, i believe the original picture shown was of the mil-spec variant. To be completely honest I don't ever remember seeing where it was stated that it was not the mil-spec version until recently.

Well it was funded a long time ago if that was a reason.

We are ensuring continued support and post-release content.

I love that this game continues to get funding. I consider it a big F U to the big boy publishers who don't know and/or care what PC gamers want.

I hope this game is wildly successful for that reason, and I hope the trend continues.

The tools and licenses are there now for smaller developers to make big things if they can get properly funded.

amen. same thing with planetary annihilation.

hopefully, once publishers realize pc games are willing to throw $100+ at the right game, we will see some change

All for only $100 plus games, doesn't sound so good....

I would gladly pay $100 for a truly great game. Considering most games I really love I've played well over 100 hours, that breaks down to pocket change per hour of enjoyment. Still a pretty good deal to me.

pretty sure this game will whore out to consoles anyway, but I digress

I would too but I want a definate. Honestly I'll probably shell out $100 for this game but I really hate to do it. Gamers have been crapped on for decades with bad quality, broken promises or simply crap that doesn't work.
I thought it could be a good thing when games went from $20is to $30, then the same thing when they went to $40, then the same thing again when the went to $50. The breaking point is at $60. Being realistic if games became $100+ do you really believe the quality would permanently change to be better? I don't and as I said earlier we've all been crapped on a ton and the only reason it continues is the constant stream of new young gamers don't remember and fall for it.
I want this game to be fabulous but I have to be realistic. This game could easily be ruined by the cash shop, scaled back features, bad controls, poor web code/latency, bad game engine that doesn't run on certain hardware or simply some unanticipated event makes it impossible for the game to be released.

I can't speak for anyone else but for me it has to do with LTI. Since I'm an original backer I get LTI on some ships I buy. That's pretty cool because if some d-bag comes out of know where and decides to blow my ship to high hell I get it replaced for free.
That and like others have already mentioned I've been yearning for a game like this for a long time and it would be nice to see it be a huge success.

Edit:I have some concerns and reservations about this though. Fanatical Meat has brought up many good points that a lot of backers should be aware of.

A lot of that is certainly true.

I'm glad they're leasing an engine, and a very good one at that. In the past, so many developers had great plans only to be bogged down and technically limited by the fact they decided to develop the engine in-house.

This should mean that they are able to invest far more time and funding in design and gameplay. In other words, they're able to jump in and get straight to the point....not wallow for years working out rendering bugs and broken engine mechanics.

I'm going to be not-so-cautiously optimistic on this title. But who knows....nobody will until it is released and we actually put some eyeballs on the final product.

I'd be interested in seeing Xbox controller support, since I already have one attached to my PC. I'm not sure if that's any different from supporting a joystick.
gamepads are already supported; it's what the dev team uses in all the videos you see.

Yeah, i believe the original picture shown was of the mil-spec variant. To be completely honest I don't ever remember seeing where it was stated that it was not the mil-spec version until recently.
in the old ship documentation, it was pretty clear you weren't getting the military version. i wouldn't worry though, i'm sure you'll be able to add the turrets to get something close, or better.

pretty sure this game will whore out to consoles anyway, but I digress
except that consoles aren't powerful enough to run it.

oh, someone said something about not seeing their resolution. this is an easy fix. go into your star citizen folder and open citizenclient. open the system.cfg with notepad and add the lines:

width = x
height = x

where "x" is your native resolution. you need to use your native resolution in order to use the holotable. as an aside, to use the holotable hold tab and you'll be able to scroll around and select things. if you change your ship configuration (add / remove / swap weapons, etc), you need to close the holotable for your changes to take effect.
