A this point I'm sure we'll be getting a game.
Technically we've already gotten a game. The gameplay is just really, REALLY boring.

I think the risk is more based on how the game turns out, rather than *if* it turns out.
I am not worried about them not finishing the game or making the game not very fun. (Double negatives, ugh)
Feature creep is probably my greatest concern. Many people have pointed out that the planned feature were always going to be in the game eventually. But when I hear about any form of substantial FPS component, I get worried that other parts of the game will be released half-baked or unpolished. It's happened before with Freelancer.
Nothing to do with what CryEngine can or can not do. More to do with something being too good to be true. I have been burned many times by developers claiming to do something, which is never close to the actual final product. I have more faith in Chris Roberts than the average game developer, but my skepticism meter is very very sensitive from past experiences.Except that the entire engine is a FPS engine and the boarding actions were always planned.... I mean if you don't think CryEngine can do FPS then I guess there is no need for you to get Crysis 3, Far Cry, Homefront 2, etc., etc....

I loved Freelancer as well. Went into the game blind and came out impressed. And this was in late 2008, so it's not like I played it early like many of the Wing Commander fans.Freelancer was a lot of fun though. If it's half as fun as Freelancer I'll be burning lots of time with it...
Already have it
Too bad their live stream is horrendous....
Heavy Bomber is up now.. need to debate this one since it does take I think 6 people to fly. That said it is the counter to those 400 Idris's out there...
Because people are eager to play the game and will pay out the nose for something that actually has very little value in game.unless they really and truly amount to "I Win" buttons, I'm not sure how they justify the pricing.
That and to show the idiots at all the game publishers that we wanted a game like this and they they don't have the slightest idea how to find new ideas, or rehash old ones, because to them, if it hasn't been made in the last 2 years, there is no market for such a game. And that is why all we get anymore are sequels and more of the same old thing. There is no innovation at all in the industry anymore. There is barely the ability to bring back IP that is older than a couple years, as long as it is a genera that was made in the last six months... Heck, I am completely surprised that Guitar Hero was ever made, but not surprised at all that the company had to leave their publisher to make Rockband because the publisher they had wouldn't take the risk to add "drums" and "singing" to the game (even though beat/drum games had previously been made, as well as singing games, but God forbid you put them all together into 1 game, ludicrous!)... I hope you get my point. Funding this game isn't so much a statement of the game itself (it is in part), but more so a statement to the industry that wouldn't MAKE THIS GAME, even though a modern "Tie Fighter" has been at or near the top of almost every wish list for a game to get remade for the last 10-15 years.
The more I'm thinking about it as time moves on, the more I'm feeling that these ship prices are downright ridiculous.
I understand that the bigger ships could technically be divvied up among a group of individuals, but still unless they really and truly amount to "I Win" buttons, I'm not sure how they justify the pricing.
