Looking at the patch notes TechBoy provided......it appears to me that they rush this build out (at least to the PTU). Look at how many items are not in the current PTU build that are on the 2.6 development schedule......

They wasted time, effort and money for various shows and events in the second half of this year (Gamescom, Citizen Con, Anniversary stream, and the hilarious Holiday stream).

Without those, maybe we would had 3.0 this year (as it was the plan).

For many people including myself, 2.5 has been unplayable since the 17th and will continue to be unplayable until the 22nd (2.6 patch roll out apparently). I can't think of any Alpha/Early Access game that has a downtime this big and not having any public announcement about it. Hopefully they break the silence soon...

I got the invite last night too. Shame, because I was off yesterday and could have spent all day playing

I had to get up around 3am to care for my infant girl and saw the email. Once I was done with the baby I went downstairs to my gaming PC and installed it.

With the limited time I had with bringing the baby home (she was still in NICU just over a week ago), I haven't really messed with 2.5 in the last month or so. With the problems people started having and 2.6 incoming, I had just deleted my install. Was able to get in a nice fresh install last night. That said, it'll probably have a patch by time I get home

I'm glad to hear she's doing well, TBJK. You should enjoy 2.6. I have so far. Star Marine is improving and they just updated the flight balance again.

I really wanted to try some SM but got my invite to 2.6 yesterday as well. Headed out of town tomorrow for the holidays so today is a whirlwind of crap to get done (including posting on forums ofc). It'll have to wait till I get back. Excited to try it out though.

The new camera features are nice. There's new nuances in the screenshots that I'm seeing. The screenies definitely look more 'dslr' than just being a captured frame from the screen.

Crytek talks about refocusing on its "core strengths", says it will concentrate development on its Frankfurt and Kiev studios

So, what does this mean? It means Crytek is closing down its Budapest (Hungary), Sofia (Bulgaria), Seoul (South Korea), Shanghai (China) and Istanbul (Turkey) studios.

I got my invite last and managed to get it downloaded before I left for work. Should have it ready to play tonight. My expectations are tempered, as this is just a PTU iteration isn't on the better LIVE servers, but it'll give me a taste.

The new camera stuff looks great.

I was enjoying it tonight. Feels pretty solid. There's something about everything in 2.6 that feels better. FPS movement, ship movement, camera movement, even the shader overhaul makes it look better. I was just wandering around a Connie and Tali taking in how they look now. Also checked out the new Drake ships. I don't know about everyone, but I've had access to every ship this PTU.

Yep, it looks great, and SM plays very well when you have the frames. Transitions to zero G and the ability to float around the station and cover points from outside the station just feels good. They need to fix the fall down animation on a bad EVA re-entry, and TTK still needs to be tweaked IMO. Didn't play much of the actual PTU since I hate rebinding everything, so got through that and did a single mission, game really looks good and feels smoother.

And yeah, all ships are unlocked right now in the PTU. First time I've actually seen the Tali in person, bigger than expected

Took this while messing around with the in-game camera controls. There's going to be a lot of fan made content coming. It's so easy to get great shots.

I'm also noticing most of the models have received some polish. The Tali looks more gorgeous than before.

Indeed, 2.6 looks much better than 2.5. Among other things, they adjusted the lightning.

2.5 was also a step up in looks, but they went a little over the top with the lights there.

For those who pick up a bundle right now, can you land and walk around planets like in some of the youtube 2.6 vids?

Landing and walking on planets is supposed to come in 3.0 (next patch after 2.6). It will not be in 2.6 for sure.

Even now there is a separate module (ArcCorp Area 18) in which you can walk in a small part of a city.

Also, 2.6 will have Star Marine (first person shooter module).
