Holy smokes. This AtV is loaded.

Tony Z's opening rant is brilliant.. then Brian Chambers just can't stop adding updates to the list and going on and on.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGzDI2wUqf0

Noooooooo. Was literally just going to post this. Really great showing and a lot of information.

However, gamebreaker was the lack of "y'know" from Tony

I was impressed with F42DE's update alone, but the clothing and head customization sneak peek got me smiling.

The studio reports in the AtV are now video versions of the monthly studio report. So each area of each studio gets coverage. I liked the format. It did crack me up that environment art gave Brian that one dull concept piece and made him show that (so as not to spoil upcoming coverage).

https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/5zbbji/trackir_support_returning_in_262/

TrackIR is coming back. That's nice.

I've been wanting to try it, especially with the input needed just to freelook at ship huds. It seems there's still a programatic bug they need to address. But it just seems like a matter of coding it.

Per Ali Brown, Director of Graphics Engineering on the forums:

There's two parts to this question, when will TrackIR hardware support be re-enable/fixed, and when will the game code implement the necessary camera controls for a solid user experience. The answer to the first question is that we've already done it and it'll work again in 2.6.2 (i.e. extremely soon). Unfortunately I can't answer the second question as it relates to game-code rather than engine-code. There appears to be just one major bug with TrackIR at present which is that when in a ship the camera moves fine, but the helmet and body doesn't move which means your view can end up being blocked by your own helmet. Hopefully this isn't too difficult to fix and I'll try and prod the right people, but can't promise a fix for any particular release.

RE: Professions in 3.0

For those that are impatient, and don't mind a more unprofessional version of Relay's (amazing) work I wrote up a quick summary for an org mate.

  1. Will items / cargo be in visable storehouse or will they be invisable "imaginary inventory" esque?

Visable cargo will be in stores so you can see before you buy, and their inventory will be visable from the storefront, basically, but for just storing stuff, then seeing it in a storehouse? No.

  2. Actually physically loading cargo into big ships? -

We don't want a click button, get inventory. We want it to take time. But we don't know how that's gonna work yet, but the big picture is it will be automatically done by machinery - note on this, they also said that specialized ships (such as the argo) can offload cargo, if some players want to be a dock work

  3. Salvage professions?

Scavaging - getting parts from ships (engines, gravgens, etc) and Scrapping - destroying ships for metal. Can also pull guns off broken off wings, if the guns not too damaged, as example. Different parts of ships will have different profits, which means if you need to get in and out it'll be beneficial to know what's more cost efficient

  4. Hazards when Mining and Cargo running, besides pirates?

meteoroid showers, debris fields, micro black holes, all this can provide information, that can be sold. Leading to more work for other players / more interaction. Also your ship will degrade over time. So maintain your ships.

  5. How will destructible props be repaired over time? I.E. Olisar's window gets shot out, how does that 'reset'? -

Important items will stick around and be persistant i.e. ships on a planet if you leave. Some stations won't be destuctible to prevent griefing. Missions are generated for A.I. and players when something gets destroyed to repair it. Otherwise, A.I. will repair damage such as windows getting shot out, or cleaning up trash

  6. More loading / unloading cargo questions .

there will be physical, as well as automatic loading / unloading of cargo. There will be in-gameplay reasons to unload cargo by hand, but it will be small hauling jobs, they used smuggling a lot as an example, getting out of your ship and smuggling small items adds a new stealth feeling...., but as far as like Hull hauling, all major ports will have automatic unloaders.

  7. Will we be able to move between professions fluidly, or will there be like a rep system?

No gatekeeping, you'll be able to switch fluidly, no RPG rules... No levels, but there will be reputation, so for example, no one will give you expensive shit to haul, until you haul enough stuff to prove your worth

  8. Ship based mining in 3.0?

Yes. Fundamental mining in 3.0, including the prospector

  9. Do you need rep to do a job, or just the right ship?

the more expensive / lucrative jobs require rep... But otherwise you just need the right ship

  10. Will there be an autopilot that allows me to get up and move around?

Yes... you'll need to for maintanence on long trips

So 3.0 by Xmas 2017?

Most pessimistic people believe so. I think they're wrong. 3.0 feels a lot closer to me. It might not be the 3.0 we thought we were getting in terms of assets, locations, or gameplay mechanics, but it'll be a huge step forward nonetheless.

I'd also keep in mind that we've already seen some "3.0" content, so like most things in game project development, things change.

Dunno about 3.0, I'm more interested in seeing progress. The last 3 ATVs have all shown just that. I much prefer this approach to the apparently botched rush of certain game development (most recent example: ME:A).

I think additional content and game mechanics are ready to go. I think the BIG hold up is the netcode work. My pessimistic prediction: CIG release 3.0 to much glory. It looks amazing when they demo it. And then everyone goes to run it and it runs at 12 FPS.....

The entire article was pulled. It's not available anywhere (other than webarchive). It was taken down, not moved.

I get that.. but what I'm not understanding is why you care. I've seen that it and CR's comments were pulled to avoid the Escapist from having to come up with the money to pay legal services, not because there was anything false in the article. If anything without a retraction, pulling a article that's 2 years old is pointless at best.

The assumption is that Defy Media realized it was a shit article and took it down, and CR's comments were taken down in kind.

All speculation of course, but I enjoyed this comment over on /r/dereksmart about it

In other words...

Defy realized that the article written by Liz Finnigan, a wannabe 'journalist', on behalf of The Escapist was in fact, written from information taken from Derek Smart himself and not based on any facts or evidence. Defy then realized that in order to save face in this matter, they would need to remove everything correlating to this fiasco and CIG, being the good natured people they are, agreed to remove their comments as well so as to nurture good relations in the future.

That's called doing good business in spite of the shit caused by one silly little girl pretending to be a 'journalist'. Derek doesn't understand this. He will never understand this. Derek is not a businessman. Derek has yet to create a single good game to prove himself as a developer. Derek, is a failure.

I hope this is an example for people. This is what happens when you listen to a 30 year veteran idiot on the internet.

Fair enough, but I really have to question why the Escapist would bother at this point unless it was attempting to dodge paying for lawyers (even if they could win easily they'd still have to pay for them). Unless they print a retraction the damage is already done... let alone just pulling it quietly 2 years later. At the end of the day, it means f&*k all for the game though.

"Defy then realized in order to save face in this matter".

Um. Too late? Anyone with a quarter of a brain saw it for exactly what it was at the time it was published: a hit piece. It reminded me (very much) of the hit pieces I see on small to medium-sized companies in the WSJ. Evenutally news comes out that large short positions were taken by hedge funds just prior to the hit piece being published in the WSJ. Just one of those things that makes you go....hmmmm.

In that mission there should be Vanduul ships (or at least a Vanduul ship), but usually they no longer spawn since 2.6.0 I think. Saturday, after 2.6.2 went live, I had a Vanduul ship, but that did not repeat the next two times I did the ICC Probe missions.

Are you in offline mode? I'm not getting more than 15 FPS in 2.6.2....which is only slight improvement over 2.6.1.
