Yes, I understand what you said, but notice I said "Size 3", not Class 3. Each weapon has both a turret class which corresponds to the information you posted, but it also has a size, which corresponds to the damage potential of the weapon. In almost all the other single pilot ships the weapon size will be size 1 or size 2. The Avenger though has a size 3. That is more like putting a 16"/50 caliber Mark 7 gun on a Bradly...

hey, got a link to this info?
what size turrets does the hornet have?

Stats are still in flux and even the ones listed are already off in some cases. You can expand the data sections on the left and some of the ships have variant expansion buttons next to the ship name. You can compare multiple ships using the compare tab at the top of each row. You can also use the small arrows next to the stat labels to sort by that stat.

aware of that, but Fallen Kell was saying there are both classes and sizes. The ship spec comparison page lists the classes, I was wondering where he got the size info from.

Ah, it must be from the weapon specs inside the hangar module holo table. Like you said, its not on the stats page or in any of the brochures I have saved.

Also the new backer Grand Admiral package has been updated to contain both the Hornet F7C and F7C-M Super Hornet so I think the hornet variants should be out very shortly.

Edit:

Just tried it. The weapons themselves list class and size and the weapon slots on the ship list weapon class and size range.

They released the Aurora 2944 brochure last night:

https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/transmission/13323-Aurora-Brochure-Released

Direct to PDF: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/media/bos6n1wm4e42dr/source/Aurora-Brochure-2944-V8.pdf

A few typos/inconsistencies in this one too, specifically that the Legionnaire variant is listed as having 2xTR2 as main thrusters on one page while the summary page lists 1xTR3. It's probably the latter. I'm fine cutting CIG some slack about this, but I thought it might be worth mentioning in case anyone got confused.

The new info that interests me the most from this brochure isn't even specifically about the Aurora. It's that it seems that variants of ships have different number of upgrade slots. They didn't release this information about the 300 series, so I'm very curious to find out if the 315 and the 325 have fewer upgrade slots than the 300. Of course, in exchange their hulls are upgraded a fair amount, but it makes the tradeoff and cost of variants worth thinking about a little more.

I don't want to justify spending less or anything, but wouldn't starting with a killer ship sorta ruin the whole "scrape your peanuts together to get the better stuff" aspect?

I agree with that sentiment for myself but understand (and encourage) people with the disposable income and desire to support the game to pledge as much as they can.

I have a Cutlass right now which I see as one of the most versatile ships, while still being 'reasonably' priced. The package cost $110, which is about the price of a newly released AAA-title plus a Season Pass/DLC, so I could justify spending that much to myself. As an aside, I usually just buy games at Steam sales and Humble Bundles, so this is quite a departure for me. I might get another ship (something more mercantile focused) but I might end up deciding that the Cutlass is enough for me to get started.

Not necessarily. Beauty of Star Citizen is that it's largely skill-based, and there's something to do for everyone. There isn't a single linear path where you can say one ship is "better" all around. An upgraded Aurora ES could be quite effective if exploration is your primary goal. For trade or dogfighting not so much.

I've never really liked the "scrape your peanuts together to get the better stuff aspect" as that usually translates into "grind", which I despise. I don't want to be collecting peanuts for weeks or months and only then finally be able to play the game as I like. I want a ship commensurate to my play-style from the get-go. Plus I want the game to be the best that it can be, which means giving it as much money as I can.

That said I am financially constrained in terms of disposable income, so in all likelihood my Aurora LN will have to do. I was planning to make exploration my initial livelihood, and the LN gives me that plus enough firepower to make low-level pirates think twice. Eventually I imagine I'll upgrade to an Avenger or Hornet in-game and become a mercenary. Maybe a freelancer or cutlass.

As nice as a Super Hornet looks, I've got much better uses for $165. I'll just have to work my way up from an Aurora.

can't be played...yet :awe:

what should i buy next

btw, what in-game difference does a 'bed' make? not really sure how the whole exploration thing works.

if i take a constellation out for exploring, (and going by CIG saying we can have 2 NPC wingmen) can the hornet follow me all the way through or would they be limited by some type of range (i.e. fuel)?

I'm curious about this as well. I know when you shut down in deep space your character "goes to sleep" in the bed and your game is saved, so does that mean ship classes without beds can't do deep space shut-down? Perhaps they need to dock somewhere to exit while saving their progress?

Or maybe the chair just reclines into a bed. The 300i has an exploration variant, but has no bed. Would be weird for an exploration variant to not be able to do deep space.

I'd bet the bed is purely a cosmetic thing like the hanger fish tank

Could be kinda cool aboard ships with multi-person crews though. The crew-mates that aren't online would be visible in their bunks; if someone logs out their character would automatically walk to their bunk, when they log-on they "wake up".

Well I upgraded my Hornet to the Super Hornet. I like that it has 2 seats and that the second seat can be used for essentially having a commander for a larger fleet op who can take care of coordination while you pilot and fight or can be used to transport people (like live bounties, or other pilots).

Barring something major, I am probably done funding this game. I've probably spent as much on this game as I have on Eve Online....
