The Revel York hangar is just stunning. Really wish they would add some AA options to the modules, though....I would love to see this hangar without the jaggies. Their approach really hearkens back to "clean" high-end PC graphics. There's no annoying over-bloomed lighting and DoF. A few screens:

Yes, I will be upgrading to a Revel & York hangar....someday....when I earn my way out of the ghetto (Self-land hangar).

On a different note......my 16 year old son became a backer yesterday (Mustang Alpha) and immediately took it for a test drive in free flight on Broken Moon. I didn't know this (he did) but you can land on a platform, get out of your ship, pull out a pistol (FPS) and shoot your ship (apparently so you can view the individual damaged modules).

That's very cool. Again, I didn't know you could do this (must have missed the memo).

I can't figure out how to get out of my ship.
Any help? (It's an Aurora)

I haven't tried it yet, but in his Mustang after he landed he just kept hitting the "F" (use) key and suddenly he was outside of his ship.

And note: once he was out of his ship, he couldn't get back in......CIG still have some debugging to do!

Anyone else notice that SC & steam don't play nice together? I always have a crash if steam is running. I know its alpha and I'm not taking any shots at either, its just odd that steam is the only thing I have to close.

Yes! I noticed that recently as well.

I didn't have that problem in the past but I havn't had a chance to load up 1.0 yet.

Anyone try a Spectrum match yet?

I haven't but I watched my son have a go for the first time last night. It went something like this:

10 minutes continually getting booted from a server.
Finally finding a server, start match
Spawn, immediately destroyed (we have no idea for sure what hit him, but I think it spawned another ship right on top of him, destroying both)
Respawn
Got a hit on an enemy (luck...he fired from 6000 meters away).
Missle lock on him.
Release flare
Get message "Missile Evaded" and then immediately get destroyed by said missile
Respawn
Fly
Missle lock on him.
Release flare
Get message "Missile Evaded" and then immediately get destroyed by said missile
Game crash

I know it's in pre-alpha, but I expected it a bit more polished as well as more competitive balance. Granted he's new to SC but my kid is already a much better pilot than me and the Mustang he's flying, while not a tank, is fast and maneuverable. I figure he'd last way longer than a few seconds a spawn!

Just curious if anyone else has had similar (or different) experiences.

Anyone mind giving me a quick breakdown of what is available to play right now? I haven't checked the game out since the hanger module was launched. Thanks!

You can "play" the hangar module (and note the hangars are MUCH different than when the module first launched).

You can also "play" the Arena Commander module if you have alpha access, or have purchased an AC pass for $5.....or are just lucky (I don't have alpha or an AC pass but for whatever reason I can still access the AC module). The AC module allows you to: fly your ship in free flight, race (against people or drones), and dogfight (against people or drones).

That's it at the moment, but the FPS module is scheduled for sometime in 2015

I am really tempted to try this out, but I am afraid of it turning into a massive time-sink.

My opinion is that fear is justified.

SC is so broad in scope you can "play" it how you want to. You can be a fighter pilot, you can be a merc on the ground (FPS), you can be a navigator in a multi-crew ship, etc., etc., etc.

I just want to be a trucker. But flying in space is not easy. I've been playing AC whenever I can for practice flying and literally 2-3 hours goes by every time I do it. That's just flying around.....and they haven't even released other modules (FPS, PU, etc.).

How do they handle player character death? I was reading a bit and it looks like if you lose your ship (without insurance) you are SOL and have to buy another one - and by the USD pricing of some of the larger ships, it'd probably take years of acquiring in-game currency to get some of the big ones.

Nah. Don't be fooled by today's ship pricing. Remember those prices aren't to purchase the game....they're to back development of the game (and you just happen to get a free copy of the game when it's done).

I've heard a couple of things:

1) when the game goes live people buying it at that time will start without a ship
2) It'll take a few hours of actual game play as a crew member on a multi-crew ship to earn enough money to buy your own ship. But that's all dependent upon your risk. Sign up as a member of a crew going on a risky mission in pirate/vanduul filled space and you're going to make more than being a crew member running cargo in "safe" space. Which makes total sense to me.

But yes, if your ship is destroyed and uninsured you will lose it. But insurance is supposed to be dirt cheap.....only the desperate or destitute would fly without it. I've read people say that the 1,000 UEC (credits) current backers get would cover insurance cost for YEARS....but nothing official is out (that I know of). So who knows.

Regarding character death....if your ship is destroyed your character will take damage. The storyline typically will be you'll be recovered in your space suit and awaken in a hospital near your hangar. You'll have scars. Maybe need prosthetics. It all adds to the story.

Eventually your character will die, but will pass along his/her ships/hangars/stuff to a family member....and with that new character you will take over once again playing. A different character....but with a connection to your past.

It all sounds exciting to me. Hope it all works that way.

Sounds so absurdly cool, unfortunately it also leaves such a large space for disappointment. Fingers crossed.

That sounds...like it COULD be interesting, depending on what you do before you have a ship. Losing a ship however just sounds stupid. If insurance is so cheap, then why bother having it? "Oh, you flew your ship into an asteroid but had $1 a month insurance on a $3mil ship? That's fine - have a new one."

Right...

There is still in game money to pay. Like lets say you have a $300,000 ship (not UEC or real money) Insurance might be $10/mo and then you have to pay $50,000 to get another one.
Also time to get the claim. I see real money going into that to make it faster. :\

If this is what the game will feature....well, I'll be happy to not play the game...ever. This just sounds poorly designed beyond anything I thought possible. I'll sooner fire up excel online.

Insurance is a money sink, that's it. all MMO's have them and this is what Star Citizen is calling their own. Why have armor repair? idk, cause it's there?

Interesting. If that's the case, it could be a blast. I'm curious to see how it turns out.

Yeah the character aging/death approach is pretty interesting to me. In addition, ships and systems/weapons will age too and show signs of it as you play the game. You'll need to spend in-game currency on upgrades and maintenance. Your shiny, new Aurora won't be shiny and new once you take it out of the hangar......
