Like the people read all about previous Chris Roberts games and were continually let down by habitual late releases and objectively terrible releases compared to the hype? Yeah, I'm with you there.

Ugh, so Star Citizen is sort of coming to PAX South, which I have tickets to, but not. LOL!!! They doing their own event next door and charging tickets for their event separately. All I can do is shake my head at that.

It's not just a video game. It's yet another project that Chris Roberts will bungle up. I have an ethical objection to the man and, considering that this is a forum where the entire point of a forum is the sharing and discussion of ideas, I am doing just that.





Please stop thread crapping. If you want to discuss the game constructively, you are welcome to do so, but coming in here and pushing some sort of agenda which has nothing to do with this game, will not be tolerated.

This whole thread? There are 70 pages to this thread and I'm only on a small fraction of those pages. Your sensationalist exaggeration only undermines your position.

Yes, there are people in the ED thread bashing it for their own self-justified reasons that others don't agree with. Tit for tat, but that's fair since the entire point of these discussions is to share your point of view, defend it, and critique the point of view of others. The result of the whole effort is that everyone who chooses to get involved or bother reading will have a more broad, well-rounded opinion that encompasses several different points of view.

To me, there is no greater respect for your fellow man than presenting them an opportunity to broaden their mind, and the best way to do that is through intelligent discourse or debate. I get called a troll because people get butthurt and don't like the fact that someone else doesn't like what they like. That doesn't deter me and it says more about the people making the troll accusations than it does about me, especially when they make snap judgments and scream about the content of their incomplete opinion, much like what you've done in this post. However, respect +2 for you going to read the ED thread and coming back to include your edit. No hard feelings at all, from me, for the troll accusation because you've taken the opportunity to broaden your opinion by checking the ED thread. :thumbsup:

Excuse me? I am not and have never been a racist. I got a vacation for posting a funny picture because someone is overcome with white guilt, read FAR too much into the image, saw what they WANTED to see and not what was intended in any way, and has an itchy trigger finger. Errr, the retaliator is kinda billed as a long-rang heavy bomber atm although you could probably use it as a fighting/boarding ship.

I think I want the red, but I might wait for release. From some other reading I've done (I really don't keep up with SC) there is some thought that buying the blue and then installing the med Bay would make for a better ship.

Seems like a cool pirate boarding ship.

Honestly, this game (if it fulfills its promise) has been what I've been waiting for. A game where you can be flying, land, get into a FPS firefight and then fly again all in the same game, same environment, same session and hopefully with the same fidelity. We'll see but it's looking good so far.

Have to say, I really enjoy the dogfighting mechanics thus far. Takes a good amount of skill to get proficient at ship control.

Can't wait for the FPS module. Cryengine has such a good amount of those mechanics build into the engine functions that I think it's going to be very impressive.

I don't understand comments saying that this game already looks "dated." Even in this pre-alpha stage, and without advanced graphics control (or AA), the materials and textures look pretty stellar. Poly count looks to be very high and model quality is excellent.

It looks like a PC game, in the classic sense. No ridiculous bloom, unnecessary gloss or overuse of DoF. I think their approach is about is good as it can get.

Something I've realized is that for these next-gen games to look good you're going to want IPS 4k+. I'm not saying it's near required, or even reasonable, but look at a SC image on your phone. (Mine is a 4s, so it's "retina") It'll look amazing. Now look at it on you PC. Looks fine, but not incredible. Take a screenshot at 1080p or 1440p. Around a 24-27" screen. Looks good. Now put it on your phone. It's amazing again.

What I mean is, AA and uber-textures are not what will make games look better. The next leap is downscaling (kinda AA) and much bigger screens resolution-wise. I think 8k+ on 27" screen would be reasonable. It would be enough to make even a fairly good 2-3 year old game look better than any game today maxed out.

I wish they would allow cross-chassis upgrades to the Freelancer (I currently have the Freelancer DUR variant). I would highly consider paying to upgrade to the Constellation - Aquila if it were available. My only current option is to melt down my package and buy the Aquila from the store. BUT if I did that I lose my alpha access.

Ah well, maybe once the freelancer is available in the dogfighting module they will allow cross-chassis upgrades?

Yup, that's how it works. The CCUs will be added when the "upgraded to" ship is flyable. So, when the Connies hit AC you'll be able to upgrade your Freelancer.

What does look jarring to me is the quality of the cockpits and the ship interiors, which admittedly are a work in progress. The actual space combat looks great but some elements of the cockpit are bland/low-res/meh. I expect this to get better as the game is polished.

The FPS module worries me more. The video they showed a few months ago on the zero-G FPS had really stilted animations. In general, the walking animations and interior ship interactions are very janky. If they can fix the movement and animation issues, FPS should be good.

That shouldnt be very difficult at all for a cryengine based game, Crysis being the obvious FPS example to give.

Wouldn't a Starfarer be better for cargo transport? More cargo capacity, more dedicated for the role.
