I was 'gifted' an F7C-M 'Super Hornet w/LTI. It will be interesting to see if I have any freedom with my gifted ship.
Yeah regarding control scheme... it would be great if they could segregate mouse users and stick users into different multiplayer matches. I would prefer using a joystick to control for more of a sim feeling, and don't look forward to being beaten by tryhards using some goofy mouse setup.
Edit: Installed Fraps and went back into the hangar and free flight to check framerates. Hangar was upper 30s to lower 50s. Free flight on Broken Moon whether up close to asteroids or off in the distance looking back at them was always 50+. Not bad for something un-optomized and better than I was guessing.
Hopefully they optimize the hell out of it. I don't want to have to buy a $300 video card :-/
I'm glad they released this, though,
So, is star citizen now in alpha, or still pre-alpha stage? And, any word on a final release date/quarter?
What is a goofy mouse setup?
I've seen some control schemes on the SC boards and some are just weird, like a throttle only left hand and mouse for aiming and firing. I just think it would be lame
Coolest moment so far: Was trying Vanduul Swarm and after killing my first Vanduul (we were both flying right at each other before I blew him up first), I let go of the controls and was enjoying the moment when the debris of the Vanduul ship I just took out collided with me and took my right wing and half of my maneuvering thrusters off! I was stuck spiraling out of control until I hit the barrier of the map. Pretty cool stuff.
Seeing as it's just an alpha, we have a ways to go and I'm sure they will be refining the controls as we go along. I had heard certain weapons are supposed to be fixed so when they eventually get patched the mouse won't be able to aim them. Other than stuff like that I certainly hope they don't intentionally nerf mouse controls in any way.
So how is the AC for those who have access? I have to run it on low (Core2Duo @ 3GHz + AMD 5850) and while free flight is mostly okay the Vanduul Swarm gets too laggy to really enjoy. Even at the lowest settings though, the ships and environment look great. Can't wait to try it on a higher end rig.

It's running decently (maybe ~26 FPS) on High with my Phenom II X4, Radeon HD 6970 and 4 GB of RAM.
Joystick sensitivity suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. I know it's pre-alpha, but I need those sensitivity sliders, badly. My Saitek X52 Pro HOTAS couldn't hit shit with guns unless the target had already been disabled, and micro-strafing the target didn't inflict enough damage. Missiles were fun though. Really got that Top-Gun-In-Space feeling.
Where/how do you work the missiles? Is it only on the 300i?
It's purrrty. Runs smooth on my system, 42 min fps under Shadowplay while in free-flight, usually in the 50's.
Can't seem to get my X-55 throttle to work, not sure why, need to do some research. They also need to add keybinding ASAP, but I'm pretty darn impressed.
Sound design also needs some love...coming from Elite: Dangerous, SC ships are too quiet.
Don't have a 300i, but both my Hornet and Aurora have missiles (not sure if The Aurora missiles are restricted to the LN version in the module). On my HOTAS it's button B on the joystick. You have to have sensor lock on an enemy and be looking straight at that enemy. Press once and a red circle will start forming around said enemy. Once lock is fully acquired (maybe 3 seconds), press again to launch.
The control layouts for all interfaces are in the menu under "key bindings".
Elite: Dangerous ships sound way too much like creaky boats, a quieter ship seems to make more sense in space.
Oh so it needs an active lock to function. Yeah I don't have the 300i either, I have the LN Aurora but AFAIK all anybody gets for now is the default model of the ship you own.
Downloading now, only have M+KB at this time.
You currently have the best control setup until they fix joystick deadzone and sensitivity
