i was thinking about the aurora ln and arena commander pass

is this all i need?

is there any reason for the nicer ships

i do not want to spend that much money

Better ships, but Aurora is still doable. I also thing for CM they're giving everyone access to the Hornet, so it doesn't matter

Also, this is so damn purty. Blowing up chunks of ships, watching them scatter, or tailing behind a Scavenger, blowing off its wing, only to have said wing slam into your ship, stripping its shields and buffet it every which way.

Blowing up ships is just freaking beautiful.

Too bad the joystick is unusable, surprisingly in the Vanduul Swarm mode only (i found it very controllable in free flight). Sensitivity ramp up and deadzone is just horribad right now, going to try playing with the Saitek axis curves programming right now and see if it work.

But seriously...frakkin purty.

Also, missle lock gets old, and the UI for locking is not quite as bad, but still gets in the way.

Also, purrrrrteh.

I think it depends on what you want to do. I purchased the Aurora LN model and wish I would have either:

a) spent a few less dollars and just got the Aurora MX, or
b) spent a lot more dollars and got the Freenlancer (I suppose I could upgrade)

When SC goes live, I'm not really interested in fighting. I'm interested in hauling stuff from point A to point B and getting paid for it. The LN has more guns/rockets than the MX. I probably won't need them. I'm hoping I can sell them.

So again, it's about what you want to do within the Universe. If you want to pew pew pew then the LN, Hornet, or many other models are probably right for you......

i suppose i would want a well balanced ship that would allow me to do a variety of stuff

I've seen some control schemes on the SC boards and some are just weird, like a throttle only left hand and mouse for aiming and firing. I just think it would be lame

A mouse in each hand? Lol! That is pretty goofy.

In the coming months you should be able to "upgrade" to an Avenger, Cutlass, or Freelancer all of which will be able to carry more goods than your LN. You can figure out the price difference by subtracting the cost of the LN Package from that of the single-ship packages containing one of the other ships.

Excellent Alpha Commander review from LevelCapGaming. On a side note... aprox $140,000 pledged on Day of AC.

I played a couple hours last night, had lots of joystick problems (CH Fighterstick). This is the first game I'm using a stick for since some flight game on Windows 95, and it wasn't a very good experience. I'm probably going to try more kb+m and maybe a XB360 controller tonight.

I am however probably going to melt my Digital Colonel (base Hornet LTI) package. I watched a few videos and the cockpit view out of the 300i ships is far superior for my preferences, plus I'm not really convinced I'll be focusing on combat anyway. Problem is, I think melting for credit would give me $110 since it was one of the veteran packages or whatever they call it. A 300i package is only $65, then I'm stuck with $45 in store credit. Almost wish there was a way to "get a refund" on my pledge ... even though that kinda defeats the point and we aren't really buying ships and stuff. I guess I could toss in another $15 and get a 300i and an Avenger...

Xonim, you may want to hold off a bit. If enough people ask for it they may open up cross-chasis down grades so you wouldnt lose the LTI. If you dont care about LTI and just want a ship with a view then a Cutlass, 300i variant, or Avenger variant will fit the bill nicely. Do keep in mind you will lose your alpha slot if you melt your current package and will need to buy the $5 Arena pass and a pass for any other alpha modules that are released before beta starts.

Oh I forgot about losing alpha access. Is it just the backer rewards that I'd get to keep?

LTI isn't really a big deal to me ... as many times as they've said how cheap insurance will be, I really have no choice but to believe them. Besides, that assumes I'm still playing in 6+ months anyway.

So this is what happens when you scoot right up to your AI teammate and shoot him with a missile!

lol all my guns were destroyed.

Oh and for those in the AC, when firing a missile, if you press and hold the middle mouse button you actually get a missile cam that follows it all the way to your target. Really awesome!

Pretty fun, but the demo just shows how much further they have to go before the game launches. It will pretty amazing if the FPS side of the game is as big as they are making it out to be.

Yes, as far as I know you keep all earned backer rewards. You just lose whats in the package if it differs from the current offering.

Hmm, kinda wishing I had gone Freelancer instead of Connie... that is until they reveal the Connie variants and then I'll be happy again.

Also check out how fast I'm downloading the patch:

Upgraded to DUR. I bought my Freelancer originally as an exploration ship, so I'm glad they had that variant available.

Now I have Aurora LN, Freelancer DUR, and Retaliator. Feel like I should have gotten a cargo ship in there somewhere, but oh well.

Connie variants will be insane! Cant wait to see the 'militant' variant of the Connie... *evil grin*... Freelancer is the Poor man's Connie. On a side note, $45 million reached... SC is now pushing $200,000 a/day in pledges!

I wouldn't say it's a poor mans connie. I specifically wanted that over a connie because of the smaller crew size, and the specialized scanning/radar systems (alien tech). Depends on what you want.

When the $46 Mil mark is reached I will upgrade to the new Chimera scanner. I feel safer in the Connie. More firepower... missiles... power plant etc. You can hire AI NPCs to Man the turrets.

Updated Scanning Software– Chimera Communications unveiled the latest version of their SBit scanning software, also announcing a one-time free upgrade for their current and long-standing customers. The new SBit upgrade offers advanced scanning capabilities for prospecting asteroids above and beyond their baseline systems. SBit is a*FIB-based system that floods the scan-zone with energy then processes the frequency of the energy reflected back, providing the operator with a composite sketch of potential ore deposits. With the new version, Chimera included an updated library of searchable frequencies as well as variable scan sizes, allowing smaller surface, higher-resolution scans. The general public will be able to purchase the update when SBit is officially released.

I am interested in how the "Militant" Connie fares against the Retaliator & possible variants of the Tali. I picked the Tali over the Connie as I wanted something with more teeth to go up against Cap ships.
