Chris Roberts isn't making this game. It's being made by a group of highly skilled folks who are obviously quite good at what they do, and the engine is made by an entirely different company that has been pushing rendering tech for a good while.

Right, just like all his other projects in the video game industry and later in the television industry and later still in the movie industry and now again in the video game industry. :awe:

I think it's progressing just fine. Just as fast as ED, which still has a very, VERY long way to go before it reaches the developer's scope of vision.

Considering that, at one time, Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous were touted by their respective developers to be released basically at the same time, it's pretty safe to say that Elite Dangerous is leaps and bounds ahead of anything that Star Citizen has to offer right now.

Are you allowed back in this thread again? I thought you got told off at least once already... :hmm:

Debating if that report button needs to be pressed or not.

By no authority have I been restricted from posting in this thread. My comments are on-topic. Just because you may not LIKE what I have to say has absolutely no bearing and is entirely irrelevant. If you have an objection to the content that you read in my posts, feel free to click the report button to the left of this text.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. There are three things in life you can count on. Death , taxes, and TC crapping all over the SC thread.

Riiiiight, your constant attacking of SC because of chris roberts has been mentioned SEVERAL times throughout this thread, you've clearly shown you can't put aside your personal feelings for a single individual. Its sad you feel the need to keep doing this but whatever, if you continue I will just report you for shitposting as at this point its obviously a personal issue for you.

Please avoid personal attacks, as KeithTalent has already posted in this thread. Please stay on topic and do not discuss posters. Oh, and no swearing in the tech forums.

**Keep in mind all this is subject to change**
For those curious about the game:

I advise anyone who thinks they may want to play this now or at some point in the future to buy one of the cheaper starter packs:

AURORA MR AC STARTER or MUSTANG ALPHA AC STARTER

Both of these packages are $45. You get a basic ship with some insurance, the full open world game, the full single player mission game, beta access, starting credits, and you can hop right into Arena Commander if you want to play right now.

If you like what you see right now these will give you the option of upgrading to some of the other ships or you can outright buy another ship. If you don't like what you see at the moment you can sit on it and try it out further in development. If you still don't like it you've lost $45, cheaper than most of the big name DLC crapshoots that have come out lately.

Sure these multi-hundered dollar ships look awesome but you aren't gonna be left in the dust if you don't have one out of the gate. If you feel you really want one, team up with friends and group buy one in the game.
This is an excellent point for anyone looking to get into SC. You don't need to spend big dollars to get the game. $45 and your in with a ship a hanger and a chance try it out.
I think people get to caught up in the high dollar ships and think they need them or they will get left behind.

How is it leaps and bounds ahead? The player in ED exists only as a HUD display. Ships are static models without interiors. Planets are all procedurally generated and unexplorable. Gameplay is combat and trade driven, with little other option, and is online only, with no real single-player campaign.

David Braben has already stated his goal is provide most of the above for ED. It's nearly the same scope defined by SC, but the path he is choosing to get there is to release ED in its current form and add that content later. SC doesn't want to release an official game until he has 100 explorable star systems upon launch -- that means 100 artist created, explorable environments...and that takes TIME.

David has a valid approach, and I think he's a great developer (and obviously there are a ton of folks enjoying ED in its current state), but let's not kid ourselves concerning the state of ED development compared to where David indicates that it's going to end up. Generating billions of star systems with an algorithm is easy once it's developed, but adding artist content to even a handful of those systems is a monumental task, and it's going to take years to get there. I've been following ED closely, but I don't plan on investing time in it until some of these additional features are added. It's going to be a great game at that point.

It's surprising too given it's had more development time and it's currently fully released you would think it would be the opposite right? cause that's The World According to Derp.

Defend ED all you want, that game is yet another MMO grindfest. One guy is in that thread talking about playing music and watching the news to make time pass, lol, man that is what I want to do after coming home from working for 8 hours. Play a game that feels like more work.

Who doesn't play music when playing games? What MMO isn't a grind fest? Name ONE.

I often watch news and movies and things while playing games, too. I like hyper sensory overload. As far as a game feeling like work, then don't play it. Plenty of people don't agree with you. That's one of the reasons that I don't play Eve anymore, but that doesn't mean that Eve isn't a grind fest or that it's somehow a bad game.

But we're not here to attack Elite Dangerous since that's not the topic in this thread. Please try to stay on topic.

I don't play music cause I only play fun games that need full attention.

The hyper sensory overload explains a LOT!

I actually play music most of the time because I prefer my own playlists to the music that most games come with. I am in the majority by this practice, if youtube and twitch have anything to say about it.

Additionally, a lot of the time, instead of listening to music I find myself listening to religious debate, or explanation of some kind of botanical discovery, or learning about biology or anthropology, etc., through youtube when I play. That is, if I'm playing solo. It's fun, engaging, and you get moar smarterz. Try it some time. :awe:

My buddy snagged one of the $20 Aurora MR - Anniversary Starter packages. After buying it, he told me to tell him when the game goes retail. He doesn't plan on spending a dime more. Well that's a lie... he spent another $5 to upgrade the MR to the LX which was a no-brainer imo.

Squadron 42... the PU for just $20.... wow.

I'm confident Star Citizen will do so again.

lol, hearing about those subjects in mom's basement while playing a boring game doesn't make you any good at any of them.

You don't, experiments have shown that multitasking means you do neither task as well as when just concentrating on one, so in your case it's more likely to be a placebo effect (arrogance).

You're the one off topic - you're talking about Chris Robert's career when this thread is for the game. He isn't the sole person behind its development.

Please stay on topic.

'Boring' seems to be a recurring term in reviews:

Elite: Dangerous review - In space, no-one can hear you Yawn

Space. The vast, empty vacuum. The final frontier. Anything could happen out here. There are endless ways to meet your end, but by far the most common? Boredom. Simple, old-fashioned boredom. Elite Dangerous is the first game we've played in a long time capable of boring you to death.

Unfortunately, none of this attention to detail and design is enough to give the game back what it lacks: fun. Some say the title really opens up after the first 100,000 credits, but based on our progress that would require around 40 hours of relentless grind and, for us at least, life is simply too short.
