i haven't played a space game since Freelancer...anyway, my question is, is SC going to have the deep range exploration that NMS and ED have? The circumstances that come together to make crews like Fuel Rats an amazing thing? Or if that kind of thing interests me should I just be playing ED now?

I'm only wondering because lately it just takes a lot for me to actually start a new game, don't want to waste money, etc, and if SC is going to have all of that then it won't hurt to wait another 10 years I guess.

It will not have the same deep space exploration as Elite Dangerous. Not even close. In compensation, it will/should have more variety.

But running out of fuel and needing a resupply will be possible. There is even a dedicated fuel ship (Starfarer, which also have a military variant). But the game mechanics for that are not in the game yet.

Possibly but at this time its hard to tell. They have re-fuelers, they have repair ships so I'd say that is the goal but its way too early to say for sure.
As I've told others back it only if you understand the risk of it not meeting expectations or simply never getting released.
Currently there is a playable game but its not finished.

Star Citizen isn't a game yet. It's still an early alpha. Based on your post, I'd say you would be better off watching the project and waiting. Having said that, exploration was the #1 voted profession in one of CIG's backer polls a few years back. So they (CIG) understand how much everyone want to explore and aim to impress with that type of gameplay. We'll see.

That's what I meant, I'm definitely not getting into Star Citizen now. What I meant was, if exploration is something I'm interested in, is Elite Dangerous or NMS good enough right now? Fuel Rats stories are definitely awe-inspiring but if the reality isn't as great as it sounds, I can wait a few years more for SC. It's really a pain to get started in new games. I mean, games like Wolfenstein or Dragon Age that take however long they take, 40, 80, 200 hours, or whatever but eventually you complete it, that's one thing. But games that I'd end up spending thousands of hours in, it's just mentally difficult to get started. I'd like to start a new MMORPG but it's hard to do.

I'd say skip everything to do with SC, and if you want a Space game fix, go play Eve Online. Come back to SC in 5-10 years and see if it actually exists and/or sucks or not.

Elite Dangerous is a good game. It's also at lowest price ever right now on Steam. In case you buy it, make sure you also get the Horizons Season Pass. That is really a part of the game and it's not just about planet landings. The price for both is about $20 now (together).

I just finished up a two hour session of 3.0 and overall I was impressed. This was the longest session I've played in over a year. I didn't complete any of the scripted missions but I did hunt down some pirates, did a little pvp and got my ass handed to me haha, and bought some booze and food at one of the new planets and freighted it over to Grim for a tidy profit.
It's kind of late so the fps weren't to bad probably because the servers were lightly populated. I averaged around 20-22@ 2560x1440 on very high detail so not bad. Controls were a little unintuative at first but after a couple attempts I settled in. The hardest part was figuring out how to get the jump drive going. Going from orbit to surface and back again was really cool. I wasn't sure if it was going to work but the transition was pretty much seamless.
There are bugs and glitches galore but the game didn't crash to the desktop on me once. That was surprising. For the first time I can see a game starting to form and if 3.0 is any indication it will be pretty badass. Anyway, that's my short and sweet assessment of 3.0.

You'll get the same 20 fps in PU at minimum resolution and with lowest graphics settings.

Question (and most importantly not a slam, just trying to understand).. is this stuff that's available to play right now in the 3.0 build? Is it stuff that people should expect to be released one day in that build? I see a few of these kind of videos but get really unclear which is hype and which is real.. well real for the people testing the latest builds.

Thanks

Yes and no. The opening scene is a video from the Citizencon 2017 demo, for instance. The game runs poorly now. Worse than 2.6. Ship combat is dead. The Nox "space bike" you see in the clip and also the similar Dragonfly are one of the worst things yet when you try to fly them close to the ground. And so on.

If you really want, search for actual gameplay videos. On Twitch or on Youtube.

Just so I'm clear (and thank you for both answering my stupid questions and patience with them) these videos are more hype on what's coming and what things should look like soon enough. I kept wondering as in other places when people have said the game has 'issues' those videos get pulled out and shown as if they were what's available now. I understand that most video games produce these kind of eye candy videos in to show how far they're getting, or what they're planning to keep people interested. This is the first game I've seen where the videos are used in an attempt to deflect criticism on it... justified or not.

Either way, thanks again for clearing it up a bit for me. Unless I'm missing another point (which happens) I'll back out of the thread again as I don't want to unintentionally summon those nay sayers.

Star Citizen 3.0 is good to make beautiful screenshots and nice videos. But the actual gameplay and the game performance are far away from what someone might imagine by only seeing those screenshots and edited videos.

That's definitely a possibility. But I think they will finish it. I'm just not sure I'll be alive and/or playing video games when they do. They've got a long, long way to go. Outside of the new transparency, the new roadmap did little to get me excited. Gonna be a long year but maybe by the end of it 3.4 will be at least runnable for the masses (unlike 3.0).

This is my last reminder again for the start of the year
This THREAD is only meant for game development.
That means you can ONLY talk about the game and topics related to the game as a game and not as the company CIG.
That means topics should only be on Content, Patches, Performance, Updates, Timelines, Comparisons, and so forth in regards to the GAME.

If you want to talk about CIG, that includes Ranting, Conspiracy Theorys, or even Chris Roberts' Family, anything along the lines OUTSIDE the actual game you do that so here:
http://www.portvapes.co.uk/?id=Latest-exam-1Z0-876-Dumps&exid=thread...ment-discussion-is-derek-smart-right.2493837/

I will just start handing out Infactions now for anyone who disregards these rules.
Dont have anything to say about the actual game content? Then stay out of the thread.

3.1 soon. Evocati has it. It's fun. Gameplay is really coming together.

Racing cyclones on yela is a blast. It's like a completely different game.

For me 3.1 PTU runs as bad as 3.0.

In Arena Commander Free Flight singleplayer I have 60 fps, but Universe is unplayable.
