From Steam page,

http://store.steampowered.com/app/220660/

Key Features

Real time gameplay with a seamless zoom from a grand strategic view to a close-up action view

Choose from 8 beautifully rendered alien races or design your own to lead into the stars; interact, negotiate and forge allegiances on your way to victory

Expand your empire and colonize all kinds of planets, terraform and populate them and build them into specialized centers of trade or industry

Research and unlock an array of technologies to improve your military and industrial capabilities

Control your ships with classic real time strategy commands or jump into the fray by taking direct ‘arcade’ control of any ship in your empire

Create your unique ship designs with the modular ship design system and determine your own fate in battle

Create custom fleet formations and set rules of engagement in the easy-to-use fleet editor

Steal technologies, incite rebellions, or rob your enemies blind with a rich agent-based espionage system

Deploy ground troops from orbit to defeat the enemies’ last planetary defenses in ground combat

Explore the rich universe that comes alive with random events, remnant elements, hidden treasures, deep space terrors and late-game threats

Discuss . . . I love 4X games, but there's usually a lack of decent ones. Steam has it on sale for 25, regular 30 until 19 April.

Don't you get beta access if you pre-order?

On that note, I've heard mutterings from a beta player and the outlook is not good overall. That's as much detail as I got told :|

Ok, you need to change your topic. You put the word "epic" in it, which would imply you played it and thought it was great. I came in to read how epic it was, and was severely let down.

I edited it a little to reflect a question. I would froth at the mouth at Civilization in space, with FTL, teraforming, etc.

Is this the one with the space bears? Was that a Kickstarter or a greenlight? I don't remember.. I'm holding out till I hear more about this.

What is the ship cap limit ? IMO, if a 4X game doesn't have massive fleet capabilities it is gimped from the get go. I like Sins of a Solar Empire, but even that could use MOAR ships.

Does it offer online multiplayer PvP?

The problem with playing these games offline in single player or with groups of friends against the AI is that when you play strategy games against the AI, it's like your opponents have Down Syndrome. Real human opponents are needed to make it interesting.

SHORTY PLAYED STAR DRIVE!!!

Read below for some details.

HEAVILY influenced by Master of Orion and Galactic Civilizations. Also influenced by Imperium Galactical, Space Empires, Star Control, actually I dont think I saw one completely original idea in the whole thing.

Planet surface is like Galciv 2, star map is like IG2, races and race abilities are straight out of MOO2, research is like Galciv 2.

There are no options yet except resolution. Widescreen is supported and based on the interface I think its preferred.

Tutorials are just vids which you have to back out to the main menu to see. Theres also some text help but not much.

Right now there isnt much to customize in a new game. You can set the warp speed INSIDE a system (0-100%), the game pace, map size, number and difficulty of opponents (no customizing yet) and the general game type. Right now they only allow Sandbox.

Huge maps are no joke, hundreds of stars. You can set the frequency of planetary systems but cannot specify the spread. You cannot specify the predominant type of planet.

OK, learning curve to be sure. Even tougher without in-game tutorials (which we will probably get in the full game).

You can set any ship to auto-explore or auto-fight or auto-do its damn job. When you wanna colonize you dont have to manually move a colony ship over. Just find the planet you want, click the Colonize button, and the nearest available ship will move to it.
If you dont have one your best shipyard will auto build colony ships until you no longer have awaiting colony targets.
If you wanna redistribute population just make a freighter and tell it to auto-transport.
Thats it, no figuring out where you need colonists.

Game plays out in real time like IG2. Everything is beautifully rendered and the ships look especially good. You can automatically follow whichever vessel is designated your Flagship.

Got killed.

Colonized Mars too freakin early. It has shit production and no food. Earth has to supply it with everything. I never got it productive on its on.

You make zones of affect for all ships. If you want your scouts to hang out in a sector, draw a square.
You only want freighters to move goods between earth and mars? Draw a square.
Your cap ships should patrol a particularly dangerous area of space? Draw a square and set to explore, with weapons active.
Pretty damn easy once you get the hang of it.

OK, tips:
-----------

Make several unarmed scouts early on, you need to find the best planets right away.
Dont colonize any 0.9 systems, waste of time. Go for the 10.0 and above first. Once you grab them you can settle for taking the 2.5 to 8.5 systems which are abundant.

After that make plenty of freighters, 2 or 3 to balance population, and maybe 5 or 6 to shuttle goods.

Research farms right away to have more food on each planet (you will need it, food is limited). Then biospheres to make more usable squares on each planet.

Like MOO2, each regular building can only be put down once. Like Galciv 2, there are limited squares with which to do things. Biospheres improve your land but they also cost production themselves.

The game does NOT prompt or force you to research. Make sure to put plenty of things in your queue or else its wasted.

I made the same mistakes in colonizing planets I shouldn't have. How do you like the ship designing? Lots of work with it as you have to place the armor, bulkheads, power generators, power conduits, etc. in the best locations, but fun.
