I think the problem is suspension of disbelief.
I am willing to believe that:
Aliens and humans will live and work together on a space ship
That said space ship can travel faster than the speed of light
That you can use a particle transporter to send someone from a planet onto that ship
But I am NOT willing to believe that:
A mining vessel of any kind will look like the one in that movie.
That said mining vessel will have an interior that looks like some fantasy land H. R. Giger version of a space ship.
That a super nova could threaten the galaxy or even destroy a planet in an adjacent system.
That Spock could watch the destruction of Vulcan for a near by planet, even one in the same system as Vulcan. If Mars blew up today the only thing I would notice is one less red dot in the sky tonight.
I think all these little illogical events add up till your mind says 'whatever'

A true homage to all Star Trek fans.
Speak for yourself. I felt it to be predictable cornball that detracted from the movie.

That's exactly what I thought too, I mean I'm willing to let them fudge a bit, but there was just waaaaay too much of it going on. Oh and since when do Romulans look like space vampires?

I was kind of surprised to see "Industrial Light & Magic - A Lucasfilm Company" listed in the ending credits.

I always though Romulans and Vulcans looked the same. Why did they look different in this movie?

Did they change the tagline "To go where no one has gone before" rather than "To go where no man has gone before" ? That's what everyone in my group thought but I couldn't be sure.
If that's case, boo to them, especially after the movie made allthe female crew wear skirts and boots

I want more of the green chick. Who/what was Scotties side kick?

OK, entertaining movie but I could have done without the big hands humor and Scotty's goofy sidekick. Funniest part was Scotty beaming them into the middle of the bad guy's bridge.

I think that's what an Ewok looks like with the hood off

I really enjoyed this movie.
Though some things really did annoy me. Where did Spock get the wood for the fire? Why couldn't the enterprise shoot the mining laser itself? Why did the missiles hit the enterprise but afterwards Sulu still mentions that the shield is still at 30%.
Overall, I thought the ride was incredible and hope they make a sequel soon.
Preferably with more space battles. I thought the space battles were too few, I was expecting a really epic battle, but they just warped into a graveyard without the pretty explosions.

it was good till the deus ex machina.
ie: Scotty comes and saves the day
spock was capt. he relieved himself because of emotional problems. kirk becaome capt. spock comes back to active duty. WHY IS NOT CAPTAIN AGAIN?!
kirk was a cadet. he becomes 1st officer by order of capt pike.
then star fleet makes him a real captain?!
cadet to capt in 3 simple steps. SIGH...
yup.. just as i expected from a Star Trek movie... PLOT HOLES GALORE

1. No idea about the wood.
2. If the Enterprise opened fire on the mining laser, Nero's ship would have opened fire on them, destroying everyone. I think. Or maybe not.
3. Old school shields allowed physical damage to the ship. Basically it lowered the amount of damage absorbed by the hull, but never completely eliminated it.
