HI,

I just spent all night playing Star Trek Bridge Crew. The tutorial was flaky, but my GOD being part of a crew! We bonded, share defeat, shared victory, let civilians burn in flames to avoid Klingon Killing us again...

If you don't have VR now, the game is sitting-only and compatible with PSVR, Oculus, and Vive. All three consoles can link together to play. Soon the vive will be bundled with the game:

I hope you used the TOS reskin also.

Watched a bit yesterday on twitch and when they switched over to it the panic was fun.

Most people don't like the TOS skin right now because there are no markers, just colored buttons which makes it hard (until you've had some time).

There's a major game breaking bug that I ran into repeatedly today. You go into warp..and you never come out of warp. LOL. Makes for some interesting conversation, but is annoying.

I REALLY hope they add some sort of PVP, but that's not really in the spirit of ST so not sure they will. If nothing else I hope they expand on the random missions.

There is a tool-tip showing what each button does you can use but it's so evil to not tell the streamers that for awhile and you watch them clicking over and over for a good 5 minutes figuring it out.

Here was one I was watching when we finally got him to try it but it does have some bad language so keep the kids away: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/148387507?t=05h13m00s

I haven't played online yet but been having a blast in solo. I played one mission with TOS and it is like the expert mode. Sure you can press a button to provide an overlay showing what everything does but good lord...so many buttons.

I really want to play solo where I can select one of the other positions but so far all positions are not selectable during mission set up. Maybe I have to rank up as captain first? Or complete all missions? Not sure.

I know I can swap into any AI position when I need to but it would be nice to have an AI captain while I play helm or some shit. As it is when you swap into another position and look back....there is no capt. until you revert back to the big chair.

I have not experienced any bugs during solo play. Visually the game is done quite well; it is VR so expectations were not that high but I'm pleased with the visuals and sound. It is great fun.

just jump into multi, at this point no one cares if you don't know what you are doing and it actually makes the game that much more fun.

Yeah I will eventually. I prefer to play with friends though. Right now I'm just doing solo while I learn.

Convincing 3 friends to drop $1000+ to have a good rig and HMD so we can geek out on Star Trek. Yeah, not seeing that moving the needle in adoption very much...

I only have one friend in real life that games. The rest of my buddies do not give a shit about any form of gaming.

I meant online friends...like friends from my guild or steam or some forum members.

Yeah VR is a big investment...not just the VR equipment but a PC that can handle it and a space to play it in. My good friend that games is coming up to my house next weekend so I can build him a new gaming PC and while he is up I plan on setting him up to play VR games while I build his PC. By the end of the day I expect he will start saving for his own VR setup.

It always depresses me when I realize I am the only gamer I know. I mean, I have friends that play consoles sometimes...but that's about it. The few PC people I know, either don't game or have ancient systems that they just browse facebook and porn with. I have people I want to share VR with, but...it wouldn't matter because they'd never go purchase it anyway. They'd think it was cool and go back to what they are doing. I suppose it is no different than my complete non interest in watching sports.

I actually hope my friend loves VR so much that he buys a setup after trying it at my house next weekend. The PC I'm building him will be capable of running VR for sure.

He's the kind of guy that once he tries something and likes it, he usually follows right behind me. Didn't want to spend money on consoles but after playing the PS3 at my house he went out and bought one. Then he tried the PS4 at my house and went out and bought one. Now he's been looking forward to trying VR for the first time and I know he will love it. He and I are like two peas in a pod.

He called me up recently and asked me to build him a new PC so I told him what to buy and it is as follows:

i7 7700
Gigabyte Z270X Gaming 5
Corsair Vengeance ddr 4 -8Gb x2
EVGA Supernova 750 watt psu
MSI GTX 1070 Armor OC

So I have a feeling he will start saving up for a VR setup. One play at Bridge crew and he is going to leak into his shorts. lol

Dang people seem to sure love this game. Do you need to be a big Star Trek fan to like it?

My Star Trek experience has been limited to a couple episodes of the 60s TV show and TNG and then the rebooted movies (though "Beyond" was kinda "meh" I thought). I've really liked the rebooted movies; the old show and TNG were ok but not incredible.

For those who have their Oculus DK2's laying around. Give it to a friend to use, it will still work with Oculus Home and Steam VR. Got my friend seriously thinking of getting a Vive or CV1 after playing Bridge Crew with the DK2 and 360 controller.

Did anyone yell out to fire the Photon Torpedoes while stuck in the warp bug?

I don't think you need to be a big fan to like it. However, if you are shy about talking in multiplayer, this game is probably not for you. You noted you like the rebooted movies; this game is set around the events of the 1st rebooted movie. The main ship and aesthetics is of the rebooted universe. The TOS ship is only available in the non story based missions. They did have an AMA where they hinted adding other eras of ships, enemies and more missions.

OK, so I've now beaten this game.

I completed the last mission by taking the weapon off the Klingon ship.
I got 135 of the people off of the Kobayashi Maru.
I've done all the major permutations of the generated adventures in both ships.

I've logged about 40 hours in the game.

Dang, what is your strategy for the Kobayashi Maru?

Open up, cycle on the photon torpedoes, when they are armed disengage them until we're ready. Engineering puts full power to phasers, rest of the power to engines, helm keeps us within 5-10km of the Maru, engineering bypasses into longer range phasers if we need them to stay within 5-10 of the Maru and continue to engage.

Not sure if this is optimal, because this guy got 150:
