What`s funny and pathetic is that all you who criticize the plot and say it`s full of holes hav no mclue what entertainment is.....
Who says there can`t be holes in the plot...hell there are holes in real life and life keeps moving on........pulls up a chair and grabs another bag of popcorn.....

I'm not biting ...

Its a trap!

Tonights episode was meh. I realize this type of thing is common in Trek, but I am not a fan.

just watched ep 5 and 6. wow this show is bad.
what a coincidence.. I just watched 6+7.

wtf Mudd wasting that kind of tech just to steal the ship?
I would have figured much grander plans.

and now they have mudd's ship/tech, why cant they use it for themselves?
set up a time loop for any instance? say rescuing the admiral?

also, plot hole.. leaving the time loop scene.

and this reminds me, Tom Cruise is making a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow?

edit:
episode 6- so serek lied about why Burham wasn't allowed into the Vulcan space program?
thought vulcans don't lie?

Episode 7 was the worst one yet. So now they have to take elements from the TNG episode Cause and Effect and combine it with TOS's Harry Mudd to come up with a story line. When Kirk met Harry he acted surprised instead of alarmed which should've been the reaction if he'd tried to seize a federation ship in the past.

Nevertheless, it makes a case for increased internal security measures which are not present in future ship designs. This whole series has gone off the rails and I still believe that the Orville is a better series.

Episode 8 has the Klingons with rocks in their mouths trying to speak. I'm not sure what to make of the Admiral as we've been left with the distinct impression that she was killed. Could that planet be PO for the crystalline entity from TNG?

I am tempted to bet that this show will die after the second season, since free All Access Passes won't be able to carry it any longer. But when you consider Voyager made it for 7 years, I am not putting money on that bet.

It's miles better than Voyager and Enterprise.

wonder whats the budget for Discovery?

and I want it to be successful.
then that means Disney will have a live action Star Wars on it's own Disney pay service.

I like the show as shown by the fact that I actually go out of my way to dl it the same night that it airs. I've cut back on my tv viewing pretty radically just as a function of circumstances so I have to really, really like something to spend the time watching. There are certainly things about the show that annoy me as I've commented several times before, but in terms of the general orientation, characters, storylines, etc., I've been pretty happy with it.

As long as netflix keeps paying cbs enough to cover production costs, I don't see this show going anywhere. It's a no-lose proposition for cbs. They get to experiment with a new delivery platform and work out any issues with it that come up and they get to do it basically for free. If it really looks like they can't make money from the streaming service I think the show would either get OTA slot or it would be sold to another content provider like netflix.

Budget: US$8–8.5 million per episode.
Most of that is on the effects.

While this is better than Orville, they are trying to combine episodes from past Trek series, and usually it ends up being meh overall.
I would have thought they would be more original, but, seems the writers don't really care that much.

I noticed that the sort of standard startrek technical jargon is not very present with this series.
It is really for a broader audience i guess.

So they are able to detect cloaked ships with even long range sensors and have plenty of time to beam over people in the time it takes for them to bring up shields so how are they losing the war?

Just beam over a few explosives when you detect the ships in your system with normal range scanners during their uncloak phase and it's game over as it would be that much easier then before as they would normally have their shields up during a normal battle.

no technical jargon. broader audience. half the episode in klingon. nope. it could only be worse if the captain was a mute.

That is exactly what they did on a few Voyager episodes against the Borg.

Doesn't really make sense they would need to 'spore drive' that many times so they could get the frequency. They had people on board, along with those big gizmos that naturally had the Trek logo on them.
The better tactic would have been to steal the cloak tech, and then take out the ship.

Is anyone paying for this? I haven't seen a single episode, I will not pay for more tv services.
I know quite a few people that have been doing the 'free' trials.

I was a bit shocked at that decision, but perhaps this is how they begin to regain continuity with a more "normal" Trek universe, with the spore drive dying/retiring with Stamets, the only one who can make it work.

So where or when did they end up? Somewhere far away out of the galaxy, or far into the future?

This was after their shields were down and in this series they talk about having to pull back because of the cloaking technology yet they can detect them to an extent when cloaked and have plenty of time to do just this.

Perhaps the warp engine signature is easy detectable but once the Klingon ships stops moving with the warp engine offline, the warp signature dissapears and it is perfectly cloaked ( presenting an EM signature comparable to background EM noise).
This series did take a bit longer to end up in a part of the universe far far away.
The typical so familiar star trek episodes will start now i guess.
