Some people will never be satisfied!! For entertainment value Discovery is over the top!!
In every series ever made there will be people who expect it to be logical and all and follow peoper science and what not!!
Get over it!! It is a series made on TV and it is done well! So quit crying and enjoy Discovery for what it is -- A very well done program!!
It gets old hearing grown up whine and complain about little shit -
The phaser bean is narrow and not wide.....
The phaser beam is gold color and not blue....
Spock never had a beard.....
Spock didn`t have a sister...….
What no food replicators.....and so on…….
OMG just roll with the flow...
Life is to short to to actually care about little crap....

The #1 complaint that I find so funny -- The plaot holes are bugging me...hahahahahaaaa get over it!!

why is an admiral messing with a live photon torpedo?!
They were trying to disarm it but were unable to and had to close the blast door from the inside since it was jammed.

They need to build the entire ship out of those blast doors and you will be unbeatable.

I don't know.. the plot for Season 2 doesn't seem too believable so far. Emo bearded Spock is getting my nerves, as well.

I didn't have as much trouble stomaching the plot for Season 1, since it was basically Wing Commander 3 with the Klingons in place of the Kilrathi.

Seriously... that game had cloaked enemy ships, a savage enemy who was overpowering the humans, a secret division of their military developing advanced weapons, a spy causing problems on the ship, and even a special bomb that would destroy the bad guy's home planet.

Implicit false equivalency. Every show has plot holes. Equating the critique of a plot that is so badly written that it's almost impossible to point to any one element of the story that isn't a plot hole, plot convenience, or in and of itself extremely dumb (and usually some combination of the aforementioned) with some random autistic person nit-picking a good story to oblivion is dishonest. Things have degrees.

Although to be fair to the season 2 writers, it seems likely that they were winging it during filming, probably because of some shenanigans in upper management. I wouldn't be at all surprised if there's an early iteration of the story somewhere that makes a whole lot more sense that what we got.

Watched the finale. I am confused how the admiral couldn't slip under the door before it closed, and how something that set off such a large blast in the area didn't do more damage to the ship.

One thing is for sure. The guy playing Pike is great. I would watch a Pike Star Trek show. I mean the ending of this was basically - Here's how we got to the Enterprise.

Kind of curious if there will even be a season 3...most of the best characters are in the Enterprise timeline, although I suppose that 7th signal is probably going to lead to something.

I agree. An explosion of that magnitude that could rip apart the bulkheads and superstructure should've vaporized that door PIke was standing behind.

Since the emergency release lever is right beside the door and requires next to no resistance to pull (which in and of itself sort of contradicts the entire "the door can't be fixed" premise), just reach in from the other side, or if you can't quite reach, use a rope.

Or just let Pike do it, since if his fate is actually sealed he's effectively immortal up until the point that the time crystal has revealed. The universe would need to find a way, such as the torpedo failing to detonate. The entire Faustian bargain to attain the time crystal could have been a really interesting topic to explore given more competent writers. Mind you, this would be an unreasonable nit-pick except that Pike's fate is actually brought up as the reason he can't be the one inside the room. Huh?

The torpedo scene, which would still be a cheap throwaway device even if it wasn't realised in the most brain numbing way imaginable, is the best counter argument to the "writers don't suck, it's just the show-runners and/or higher ups putting them in a situation where they need to make things up on the spot instead of getting everything figured out before production" theory that I posited before. Of course, the truth also could be, and likely is, somewhere in the middle.

I must admit that the torpedo scene provided us with a detailed look at a futuristic weapon that none of the previous iterations of it ever did. Nobody expects to see a plain black pill looking device whereas this one looked militaristic.

Don't get me wrong... this isn't the worst Star Trek series I ever saw.

That "honor" goes to Voyager... AKA "Gilligan's Island in space". You know that you're in trouble when you try to bring in a cute looking Borg with big boobs into the cast in a desperate attempt to improve ratings.

Yeah, but that ending wouldn't have had enough drama for a season finale!

I'm sure that they would have had an excuse like "transporters being down, captain!" if someone bothered to suggest it. Otherwise, you could just beam the torpedo into space where it explodes harmlessly.

Season 2 started off great with the red angel.
Then went off the rails when it *unnecesarily* added skynet.

And wtfbbq Klingon time crystals coming from left field?
Ugh...

You didn't ever see the original cast movies? They showed them in 3 as Spock's coffin I believe, and I know they should it in 6 when they were adding the ability for it to hone in on emissions.

Like I said the previous iterations of it, even with the gull wing doors, looked pretty lame compared to the torpedo in that episode.

Just for haha's, I went back and watched the first season of Deep Space Nine. Wow... it hasn't aged well. It's not just the special effects, but the acting was pretty bad as well.

Maybe Discovery isn't as bad as I thought when compared to the other Star Trek spinoff series.

Season 1 DS9? Give "Duet" a try.

For me, it's the best Star Strek series I have seen on TV, mainly because I prefer a show that can keep a story line going. Don't get me wrong, TNG was a good show in it's time, but it followed the direction of all other ST series of that time - independent episode one after the other with only tiny bits here and there to show something that one would have to try pretty hard to call a story line across episides/ seasons. Looking forward to Season 3!

Lots of speculation about Netflix refusing STD season 3. If it gets pushed onto Amazon I'll be primed....LOL

Just go back and watch TNG. It's on amazon and netflix and it's still fantastic. This show is clearly for the heavily doped up to the point you can't remember what you watched 30 seconds ago anyway.

No content on TV can beat reality cooking shows for the "dopes who can't remember what's going on". I swear that half of the content for your average episode of Chopped is them recapping what everyone cooked and repeating the more interesting points of what happened.

That is the standard for all of those kind of shows. They have so little content and they need to pump out so many episodes they have to replay the few things that they decided were worth having on TV.
