For me, it's the best Star Strek series I have seen on TV, mainly because I prefer a show that can keep a story line going. Don't get me wrong, TNG was a good show in it's time, but it followed the direction of all other ST series of that time - independent episode one after the other with only tiny bits here and there to show something that one would have to try pretty hard to call a story line across episides/ seasons. Looking forward to Season 3!

I can't argue that it is good Star Strek, but it's definitely terrible Star Trek.

I like the series but I hate the series. I'll keep watching it though because I love Star Trek that much.

Michael is one big cry baby though....I can barely stomach it.

My favorite parts of STD are Cpt. Pike and the redesigned Enterprise not to mention that I dig #1 as she does favor the original one.

I wasn't a huge fan. It was basically 'let's talk about our feelings' with a spinning camera, some Pew Pew and a dose of plucky girl power. Some of the writing was pretty off too. Sure that happens in other star trek shows but that's the benefit of contained episodes. The writers screw up an episode? Just chalk it up and move on with no real detriment to the series.

Also Ensign Tilly has got to be the most annoying character on ST. I'll take a ship of Wesley Crushers over her

They're airing season 1 on CBS Thursday nights. I caught the 1st 2 episodes but missed last weeks. I forgot all about it watching football.

I'm a Star Trek fan and it seemed worth watching to me so far. Besides there nothing else on anyway.
It fits in with my watching H&I channel Star Trek line up... TNG @9, i usually don't watch Deep Space 9 anyway @10, then sometimes catch Voyager @11.

It's good overall, and got a lot better in the 2nd season.

DS9's good too, although the 1st season was rather dubious, 2nd was ok, 3rd and onwards was good and got better.
If you gave up on it previously in the 1st season, skip that season and watch it from the 2nd on. If you've seen it all berfore, oh well nm

I started watching DS9 when it first aired. I don't remember how far i got into it. I typically like a show that i don't have to have seen last weeks show to to enjoy it. Miss an episode or 2 & you get lost.
I'll have to see where they are as far as season & episode on the H&I channel. They do show everything in order & when it comes to the last of the series they start it over again.

Maybe if i can find a screaming deal on the dvd's i might get them. I would like to get TNG on dvd or blu-ray sometime & maybe the original.

If you have access to Netflix, Amazon Prime, or CBS All-Access, it's streaming on those platforms.

On a side note, TNG is the only TV series I've ever bought discs for. Have the complete series on BluRay.

I prefer on going stories generally, you just get so much more to it! Still love TNG though

Same here ... I have TOS on DVD too.

TNG had some fantastic episodes and ongoing storylines as well. Believe it or not though my favorite series overall (so far) is DS9 although I'm still not happy with it never really concluding.

And although Discovery isn't perfect I've been enjoying it so far and am thrilled that more "Trek" stuff is in the works. Going to watch episode 1 of season 3 in a few minutes.

I prefer a mix. A new arc each season, rather than one long arc over the entire show. Discovery is ok, I feel this season could be interesting if they write it well. 900 years into the future is at least a new time era, Star TRek has been very guilty of padding out the 23rd and 24th centuries way too much.

Ummm, do you have amnesia?
It ended.
A bunch of people died.
One person joined the eternal wormhole.
Several officers transferred.
The Dominion War concluded.
The Federation had a truce with both the Romulan Empire and the Cardassians.
That evil bitch got taken care of.
The changeling went back to his people.

Did you miss the final episode or something?

I re-watched the entire series like a year ago.

While it's true they did wrap up most of the major storylines in my opinion at least the endings were not really satisfying and felt rushed.

That's how the series' from that era went - play a bunch of episodes that don't relate to anything - rush a continued story from previous seasons at the end. I will say that DS9 probably did the best at a continued story (after several seasons) up until the current series.

Agreed. TNG is the only Star Trek show with a good finale in my opinion. DS9 is my favorite overall, though it really felt like they were scraping the bottom of the barrel in the last season. It became distracting how much they were recycling stock footage of previous space battles because they were all so distinct.

Is season 3 of Star Trek Discovery worth watching if you don't already have a CBS All Access account? Just curious.

Eh.. they're now in the future.
But yet similar line of sight phasers and no auto targeting.

Now there's overtones of the federation turned into the Evil Empire.

Also, why haven't the federation of the future copied the spore drive?

Well... apparently they did such a good job of keeping the evil universe killing spore drive a secret that there wasn't a word of it mentioned in TNG, Deep Space 9, Voyager, or any of the recent pre-reboot Star Trek movies

Considering that Voyager was stuck on the other side of the friggin galaxy for most of the show, you would have thought that it would have been brought up then.

Well the last two episodes, Terra Firma parts 1 and 2, were a bust, IMO. Reminded me of the old Star Trek days (let's do this totally out there nothing-to-do-with-the-plot-line two-parter). But maybe that's just me. All 8 epidodes before that have been great, and if you are enjoying the series thus far, you won't be disappointed.
